    Position Description:

    The Advanced Respiratory Care Practitioner (A.R.C.P.) has completed the National Board for Respiratory Care, Registry examination (R.R.T.), and is experienced in both routine and advanced critical respiratory care.  Practical knowledge of the anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology of the cardiopulmonary system is required to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients receiving Respiratory Care.  The Advanced Respiratory Care Practitioner must demonstrate clinical application and theoretical knowledge consistent with the current literature and accepted practice of the profession, in the principles of cardiopulmonary disease and appropriate treatment, over the life span of the patient. 

    Qualifications:

    Respiratory Care Practitioner Advanced (U39)

     Education/experience/licensing:

    · Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT), as recognized by the National Board for Respiratory Care.

    · Current State Medical Board of Ohio license.

    · Certified in cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

     Communication and other skills:        

    · Shall be in good physical and mental health.

    · Shall be able to work all shifts with some rotation.

    · Physical Requirements: 

    1. Visual acuity of 20/20 or corrected to 20/20 including color vision, where applicable: constant 67-100%; 2. ability to hear, with or without aides: constant 67-100%; 3. ability to orally communicate: constant 67-100%; 4. good manual dexterity: constant 67-100%; 5. ability to push, pull, roll, transfer/lift 50 pounds occasionally: constant 67-100%; 6. ability to stand/walk frequently: constant 67-100%; 7. ability to bend, reach, stoop, kneel frequently: constant 67-100%; 8. ability to perform CPR: constant 67-100%

    · Current State Medical Board of Ohio license.

    · Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT), as recognized by the National Board for Respiratory Care required at time of hire.

    · CPR BLS Certified through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.

     Required Education/Experience/Licensing:

    · Eligible for the National Board for Respiratory Care Certification exam, or is enrolled and in good standing in an A.M.A. approved respiratory care program – required.

    · Current State of Ohio Respiratory Medical Board License:  Limited Permit – required

    · CPR certified through American Heart Association – required. Will accept at time of hire only American Red Cross CPR.

    Working Conditions:The Advanced Respiratory Care Practitioner's primary work environment is in the acute care hospital of UTMC, performing the clinical activities, both routine and critical care, that are consistent with the professional practice of Respiratory Care. The Advanced Respiratory Care Practitioner may be exposed to hazardous or infectious materials or waste.
