General Description

The Vice President for Academic Affairs serves as the chief academic officer of the College.

This senior administrative position provides executive leadership for the College’s educational programs and serves as a key advisor to the Provost.

Job Duties (Duties Assignment Statement)

Serve as the chief academic officer of the College, providing effective executive leadership for the College’s educational programs.

Provide visionary leadership among the College’s faculty and education staff, maintaining an environment of innovation with a focus improving student learning and instructional effectiveness.

Develop and support a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion throughout Academic Affairs and across the College.

Develop and implement procedures necessary for the effective and efficient operation of Academic Affairs.

Serve as a member of the President’s Cabinet.

Establish and implement academic plans that support the institutional strategic and annual plans.

Provide an effective system for the provision of credit courses and educational programs, and recommend changes in program offerings based upon a continuing analysis of economic and community needs.

Provide a system for the achievement of accreditation and required external approval of programs.

Hire, develop, and support qualified cadre of diverse faculty and staff in support of the College’s mission.

Implement initiatives that improve student success as measured by evidenced-based assessment of student-learning outcomes, enrollment, successful course completion rates, individual student goal attainment rates, retention rates, and graduation rates.

Provide effective representation of the College with external constituencies.

Participate and provide leadership in local, state, and national councils and committees.

Work collaboratively with Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education.

Provide development opportunities regarding established safety and health procedures and practices in compliance with federal, state, and College requirements.

Develop and provide professional development opportunities for faculty and staff.

Adhere to established safety and health procedures and practice.

Ensure proper inventory records to protect security of College assets.

Other duties as assigned by the Provost.

Job Duties (Safety / Policy & Procedures)

Abide by the policies and procedures published in the Board of Regents Policies and College Policies & Procedures.

Contribute to a safe educational & working environment.

Adhere to established safety and health procedures and practices for the purpose of providing injury and illness prevention for self and others.

Complete quarterly health and safety training pursuant to OCCC’s established safety and health procedures and practices.

Participate in all applicable OCCC emergency, evacuation and shelter in place drills and be prepared to take action and assist others in taking appropriate action should a health or safety emergency occur.

This position has been identified as having significant responsibility for student and campus activities.

The individual holding this position is designated as a Campus Security Authority (CSA).

CSAs are required to report crimes they become aware of to the Reporting Structure at Oklahoma City Community College. Annual CSA training is required for individuals holding this position.

Minimum Education/Experience

Master’s degree from a regionally accredited university.

5 years of successful management and administrative leadership in a higher education institution.

3 years of teaching at a 2 or 4-year higher education institution.

Experience with national, regional, and programmatic accreditation.

Applicant required to attach transcript conferring the required degree.

Physical Demands/Working Conditions

    Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.
    Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word.

Those activities in which one must convey detailed or important spoken information or instructions to others.

Hearing: Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels or without correction.

Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and make fine discrimination in sound.

Repetitive Motions: Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.

Requires visual acuity to perform activities such as but not limited to: preparing and analyzing data, figures and reports; viewing a computer terminal; expansive reading; visual inspection of small parts and/or operation of machines; using measurement devices; and/or determining the accuracy, neatness, thoroughness of work assigned.

Typical office environment; this position is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.

Preferred Qualifications

An earned doctorate from a regionally accredited university.

10 years of successful management and administrative leadership in a higher education institution.

5 years of teaching at a 2 or 4-year higher education institution.

Experience working in various teaching modalities; terms, semesters, online, hybrid, on campus, etc.

Work Hours

Monday through Friday, 8 a.m-5 p.m., with frequent evening and weekends.
