The Department of Physics at the University of North Florida (UNF) is seeking applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the assistant professor level to start in August 2021. We are interested in candidates whose research is in experimental or theoretical condensed matter physics or physics education research. The successful candidate will be able to excel at teaching courses throughout the physics curriculum, conduct externally funded research involving undergraduate students, and be committed to increasing the participation of women and underrepresented minorities in STEM fields. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in physics or a closely related field. Postdoctoral research experience is preferred.

UNF offers a bachelor’s degree in physics and has recently launched an interdisciplinary master’s degree program in materials science and engineering. The standard teaching load for tenure-track faculty is three courses per semester. UNF is a Carnegie Community Engaged institution, a designation that recognizes the University’s collaboration with community partners from the local to the global level. Following the teacher-scholar model, UNF faculty are expected to maintain the highest standards of academic excellence in all phases of instruction, research/scholarship/creative activity, and service. Not including this position, the Physics Department’s tenure-track faculty consists of five condensed matter experimentalists, one condensed matter theorist, and three astrophysicists. More information can be found on the department website (www.unf.edu/coas/physics/). Start-up funds and research space are available for this position.

Applications must be submitted at www.unfjobs.org/postings/15225 and must include the following: (1) a letter of interest, (2) a curriculum vitae, (3) a statement of teaching interests and practices (1-2 pages), (4) a statement of research interests and plans (2-3 pages), (5) a statement of commitment and contributions to advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion (1-2 pages), and (6) the names and email addresses of three reference letter writers. The application should describe the candidate’s abilities and ideas to foster student engagement in their courses and to incorporate undergraduate students into their research at UNF. For additional information, see the UNF Physics Department website or contact Dr. Daniel Santavicca at PhysicsSearch1@unf.edu. Review of applications will begin on January 15, 2021 and will continue until the position is filled.

UNF is an EO/EA/AA Institution and committed to diversity in the workforce. Women, minorities, individuals with disabilities, and veterans are encouraged to apply.
