Utility Worker 1 (Part-time)Job Description:
Under close supervision, performs various unskilled manual work in the maintenance, repair, remodeling, and construction of buildings, facilities, utility and sewer systems, equipment, and grounds.
This position is part time and will work Monday thru Thursday (16) hours per week during day shift.Essential Duties Summary:
•Positions in this series perform unskilled or semi-skilled maintenance, repair, remodeling, and construction duties as part of a work crew or assisting journey level workers in a specific trade.
•Loads and unloads materials, supplies, and equipment used in construction and maintenance work;
•Works with hand tools to dig ditches, trenches, and other excavations and remove debris;
•Loads and unloads trucks and moves furniture, equipment, supplies and materials; assemble new furniture;
Knowledge and Abilities
•Ability to: read and write; understand and carry out simple instructions; perform heavy manual labor and work in all types of weather.
• Six months of manual labor experience;
• Posess a valid Washington State vehicle operator’s license;
• Demonstrated ability to work well with a variety of people and values diversity
• Awareness of own cultural values and biases.
Frequent sitting, standing, walking, bending, twisting at waist kneeling, squatting, pushing/pulling, and repetitive arm/ hand movements; lifting 35 lbs. frequently, up to 65 lbs. occasionally; occasional jerking and/or vibration from equipment, carrying 35 lbs., climbing ladders, working at heights, balancing, reaching above shoulder-level, and driving; hearing and seeing should be within normal limits; work is performed out of doors 95% of the time in all types of weather, and exposure to chemicals/fumes, dust, and equipment noise can be expected.Special Conditions for Eligibility:

Hourly employees who qualify (work 350 hours in 12 consecutive months) are represented by the Washington Federation of State Employees (WFSE).
