Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor degree is required. A Master’s degree in Guidance and Counseling is preferred. Incumbent should have three (2) years or more experience coordinating a Tutorial Program for low-income and disadvantage students or similar experience. Effective managerial ability and good oral and written communication skills are essential. Basic literacy in the use of computers and Business Applications such as word processing, data bases, graphic presentation and spreadsheets are required.

Purpose of Job:

The Tutorial Coordinator is responsible for coordination of tutoring and supervising the tutorial component, lab monitors and tutors to increase retention and graduation rates of students in Student Support Services.

Scope of Responsibilities:

Identify, recruit, select and orientate students and tutors; coordinate tutoring classes for students; conduct workshops and conferences relating to tutoring; provide tutoring Manual; maintain accurate and confidential records of all participants and their progress toward matriculation; provide professional guidance and counseling; prepare follow-up reports on former participants; coordinate information regarding students; profile and prepare a need assessment for each participant for proper advisement and placement; prepare monthly report detailing accomplishments, problems encountered, projections, and matriculation.

Essential Job Functions :

Recruit, train, and select peer tutors; Orients program participants in the effective utilization of tutorial services; Assists in the operation of the Academic Skills Center for participants; Develops and maintains records documenting the use of academic support services by program participants; Assists in the administration of interpretation of instruments measuring the effectiveness of academic support services by participants; Assesses participants to determine the types of academic support needed ; Prepares periodic reports as required by the program to document the use and effectiveness of academic support services by program participants; Advises participants as appropriate in the selection of courses in their program of study.

Qualifications:

Licensing and Certifications :

None required, teacher license a plus.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

Ability to communicate effectively, possess excellent organizational skills, knowledge of Microsoft Office and Banner a plus. Must have experience in working with low-income, first generation and disabled students.
