Description:

For Tulane's Center for Sport Clinical Programs, the Nurse Practitioner performs a variety of services, ranging from primary patient care to health assessment, planning, teaching, counseling, and clinic management. The Nurse Practitioner works with former professional athletes and military veterans with acute illnesses and injury and chronic stabilized illnesses. Duties include but are not limited to: performing physical exams, recording patient medical histories, creating patient care plans, administering diagnostic tests, and administering medicines and treatments. This position is also responsible for supervision of medical and nursing staff assigned to the clinic.

Required knowledge, skill sets, and abilities:

  • Ability to implement the philosophy and objectives of the program
  • Ability to make comprehensive accurate assessments and decisions and plan care in accordance with assessments
  • Extensive knowledge of current medical, rehabilitative and nursing care techniques
  • Ability to work collaboratively with the clinic and center staff to serve the clientele
  • Ability to coordinate the team's approach to medical services with the physician, center staff and other members of the multi-disciplinary team
  • Ability to function independently and recognize when consultation is appropriate. 
  • Ability to interpret physical findings and refer or treat/manage the patient as the condition or protocol dictates
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals or groups in providing health education
  • Ability to work collaboratively with community and sponsoring agencies in cooperation with the community

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications: Master's degree in Nursing; minimum three years of full-time professional clinical nurse experience; completion of ANA-approved Nurse Practitioner program with national certification; Louisiana licensure, plus recognition or licensure by State Board of Nursing as an Advanced Practice RN by date of hire.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience working with high profile athletes, military veterans and their families; cardiovascular research and/or practice experience; traumatic brain injury research and/or practice experience.
