CVM Human Resources is a centralized college department that supports all college HR functions and coordinates university consistent programs and processes that are aimed at improving the college’s community and culture.
The CVM HR department is comprised of five dedicated HR professionals supporting a community of over 1,500 faculty, staff, house officers, post docs, graduate and student workers, temporary employees, visitors, and adjunct faculty in the full employment cycle and aligns the HR function to the strategy and goals of the college and ultimately the university.

The HR Specialist will provide consultative services and generalist human resource support for the faculty, staff and administration of the College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM). The Specialist will:
•Provide recruitment, classification, and compensation work with department leadership through position design and creation, classification and compensation, recruitment initiatives, and hiring.
•Collaborate with hiring managers and search committee members to understand their hiring needs and team goals. Assist managers in identifying new strategies and programs to attract candidates.
•Review, edit, and post vacancy announcements as well as draft external job advertisements.
•Prescreen candidates for required skills, experience, and aptitude.
•Work with the client groups to consult on classification and compensation strategy. This includes reviewing, analyzing, and evaluating position descriptions, conferring with managers, and preparing written documentation on findings. Make recommendations on appropriate level grade and FLSA exemption status. Communicate with stakeholders regarding the results of classification and compensation findings.
•Draft new hire documentation including offer letters and enter new hire information into the HRIM system. Works closely with CVM Business Office to ensure correct funding sources are utilized.
•Providing training and guidance to hiring managers and search committees on recruiting processes and hiring manager responsibilities.
•Advise and ensure hiring managers follow policies, procedures and best practices.
•Recommend new approaches, policies, and procedures to effect continual improvements in efficiency of HR practices and processes.
•Evaluates criteria and facilitates waivers of recruitment according to NC State regulations and requirements.
•Provides assistance with academic personnel appointment, promotion and tenure processes and system updates.
•Manages annual review process to ensure completion and provides content development guidance and support to managers as needed.
• Identifies and clarifies problems, evaluating potential solutions, implementing selected solution, and coaching/counseling managers and employees to improve manager and employee performance.
•Provides experienced guidance and support in Employee Relations issues in coordination with CVM HR Leadership.
•Serves as back-up and provides on-going assistance to human resources activity and tasks as directed by CVM HR Leadership.
The HR Specialist must frequently and quickly assess situations and consider options to advise college managers. S/he establishes strong communications, advisement, and collaboration with college customers, constituents, university offices, and others. The successful HR Specialist will have the ability to interpret, apply, and ensure accountability of a wide variety of interrelated policies, procedures, HR best practices, employment law, and college procedures. S/he will identify trends and recognize impact of policies, procedures, and laws. The use of critical thinking skills to effectively solve human resource issues are essential.
Given the high volume of daily transactions which must be processed accurately, the college prefers candidates with a demonstrated ability to independently survey and prioritize daily work activities; strong attention to details; strong organizational skills; and demonstrated ability to bring matters requiring additional review to a conclusion in a timely manner.Other Responsibilities:

Bachelor’s degree; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.Other Required Qualifications:
-Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to work effectively with administration, faculty and staff at all levels.
-Ability to apply critical thinking skills with strong attention to detail.
-Ability and interest in supporting an inclusive community.
-Strong computer skills, including MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
-Experience using an applicant tracking system (ATS) for creating positions and recruiting.
-Experience in developing interview questions, screening and interviewing candidates.
-Ability to partner with hiring managers to successfully fill open positions with the best qualified candidate.
-Ability to assess, adapt, and meet the needs of customers; strong problem solving skills.
-Ability to prioritize and meet multiple objectives and deadlines in a fast paced environment.
Prefer four or more years working in Higher Education HR generalist role and/or developing successful recruiting strategies for faculty and professional positions.
Bachelor’s degree in a related area.
Experience using PeopleSoft HR including system entry and ability to query and analyze data for various reporting needs.
