Job Summary

Perform advanced technical work for the design and fabrication of complex precision components and mechanical devices and electromechanical equipment and structures. May develop manufacturing techniques and systems, operate machine tools, power and manual hand tools. Assist faculty, research engineers and students in designing parts, assemblies and apparatus to be fabricated in the machine shop. Maintain mechanical equipment and records/inventory of tools and materials; may assist with testing electromechanical equipment and using experimental apparatus and equipment. Advise staff and students in making design projects. Interact with faculty, staff, students, research engineers, vendors, sponsors.

Responsibilities

Job Duty 1 -

Design and fabricate complex precision components and mechanical devices and structures. May use manual milling machines, lathes, drills and portable power tools. Other equipment may include saws, metal brakes, welding and painting equipment, plating and refrigeration equipment, electric power tools, hydraulic test equipment, pneumatic power tools and hand tools.

Job Duty 2 -
Maintain inventory of tools and materials; maintain appropriate mechanical equipment and records.

Job Duty 3 -
May produce CAD documentation for mechanical components.

Job Duty 4 -
Assist faculty and students with design, use of experimental apparatus, and fabrication of teaching and research equipment.

Job Duty 5 -
Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
Technical Diploma, Associate's Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience

SKILLS
Position may require using some or all of the following: metal machining operations, laser equipment, electrical/electronic instrumentation, machine tools, ability to maintain equipment, operate hand/power tools and hydraulic/pneumatic equipment; design equipment and/or machinery (CAD), job planning, layout, sawing, drilling, reaming, threading, finishing, Turning, 3-axis vertical milling operations knowledge of shop safety procedures; effective verbal and written communications skills, organizational skills, self-motivation; ability to work with deadlines.
