Compensation: Salary is $43,771.42. Compensation package is comprised of many college paid benefits including health and life insurance, retirement, leave time, and tuition waivers for Santa Fe College and the University of Florida.

Description:

The Institute of Public Safety (IPS) offers SF’s Emergency Medical Services and Criminal Justice Technology degree programs, as well as vocational certificate programs in the areas of law enforcement, corrections, emergency medical technician, and paramedic. IPS also provides in-service training to public safety agencies based in Alachua and Bradford counties, throughout Florida, and nationwide. IPS’ facilities are among the most innovative and technologically advanced in the United States.

The Criminal Justice Basic Recruit Coordinator will oversee the Law Enforcement & Corrections Basic Recruit Class (BRC) programs and assist with Advanced & Specialized Law Enforcement Training Programs in accordance with standards specified by the Florida Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission (CJSTC). The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) ensures compliance with CJSTC standards.

Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Coordinates activities relating to BRC and Advanced & Specialized training programs, including overseeing training programs, faculty, students, equipment, and facilities; scheduling training programs and other activities; assisting with registration; investigating and responding to student misconduct and recommending disciplinary actions.

  • Collaborates with criminal justice agencies to identify training needs.

  • Recruits, selects, credentials, supervises, and evaluates instructors. May serve as an instructor in IPS courses.

  • Reviews and revises training curricula. Creates written exams; proctors exams; analyzes exam results. Tracks student attendance and makeup work. Creates, maintains, and protects accurate records relating to training programs and instructors.

  • Designs and develops complex written products such as formal policies, standard operating procedures, employee or student handbook materials and rules.

  • Develops and maintains quality control and quality assurance standards. Ensures full compliance with CJSTC rules and guidance. Prepares for accreditation audits of IPS programs and assists auditors. Serves as the IPS liaison to FDLE for the design, development, implementation, and evaluation of curricula, rules, and regulations.

  • Attends conferences and meetings with local criminal justice agencies, FDLE staff, and personnel from colleges and training centers throughout Florida, sometimes involving overnight travel.

  • Purchases equipment and supplies and maintains inventory records.

  • Prepares grant applications and administers grants.

  • Provides and promotes excellent customer services through courteous, informed, accessible, and professional engagement.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Reports to: Associate Director of the Institute of Public Safety

Qualifications:

Required: A Bachelor’s degree and two years of experience in the criminal justice field OR a combination of completed education and experience equal to six years that includes two years of experience within the criminal justice field.

Additional Requirements: Applicant must have a valid Florida Driver’s License and be authorized to drive by the college (Driving Requirements). Must be able to lift 25 pounds in order to carry items such as records, supplies, firearms, ammunition and equipment A criminal background check will be conducted.

Preferred: Experience with the following: coordination of training programs for law enforcement officers and/or correctional officers; maintaining formal accreditation standards for programs or organizations; managing a training organization and prior completion of a formal law enforcement/corrections training program.

  • Systems & Software - proficient level of knowledge of Microsoft Office and/or relevant position software programs.

  • Multi-Cultural - Ability to work well with students, faculty and staff at all levels within a diverse, multi-cultural, collaborative environment.
