Position Description:
Under the general supervision of the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), the Facilities Manager has primary responsibility for management of facilities, building and equipment, as well as the supervision of Research Storeroom and Planetarium for the department of Physics & Astronomy. The Department has 150,000+ square feet of space, primarily Knudsen Hall and the Physics & Astronomy Building (PAB), as well as the Planetarium (Math Sciences Building) and a portion of Kaplan Hall (Division Mechanical Shop). Provide support to research and teaching labs, as well as administrative and teaching space in both buildings. Participate in the planning of space and anticipate changing needs. Manage the design and oversight of renovation projects and serve as departmental liaison to all areas outside of the Department with regard to Facilities and renovation projects. Serves as liaison to UCLA EH&S and Fire Marshal to ensure laboratory and overall building compliance. Responsible for the annual Space Inventory and Asset Management processes for an asset total of $11M. Assist CAO in development of annual budgets for functional areas. Plan for future space, equipment and budget needs, by developing and analyzing reports for departmental space, facilities and equipment. Responsible for facilities-related Sales and Service operations (research store, nitrogen). Plan and negotiate major equipment and furnishings purchases.
