Job Description Summary:

SUMMARY

A research assistant position (part-time or full-time) is available in Dr. Li’s lab at Husson University College of Science and Humanities. The candidate for this position will work on an USDA-funded project on the role of the broccoli sprout bioactives and the gut microbiome in the suppression of colitis and colon tumorigenesis. The research assistant works throughout the academic year and summer employment is also available.

Duties and Responsibilities:

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The successful candidate will lead and conduct part of the USDA-funded project. Duties and responsibilities include:
•Prepare broccoli sprouts for mouse diet;
•Plan for mouse study, including handling mice and collecting mouse samples (blood, urine, feces, and intestinal tissues);
•Prepare and extract samples for HPLC and LC-MS/MS analysis;
•Conduct cellular/molecular/biochemical assays;
•Maintain laboratory research records of all experiments performed, collect and analyze data, prepare reports, presentations and publications;
•Work with other members of the research team;
•Perform other related duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

•A graduate with bachelor’s or master’s degree in biochemistry, biology, chemistry, nutrition biochemistry, pharmaceutical sciences or related field; or a current undergraduate student with relevant experience and flexible working time;
•Highly motivated, reliable, responsible, organized, and good interpersonal and communication skills.
•Able to work independently and with a team.
•Computer skills: Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

•Experience in biochemical/molecular assays preferred;
•Experience in handling mice preferred;
•Experience in cell culture preferred.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Basic Qualifications:
•A graduate with a bachelor’s or master’s degree, or a current undergraduate student with relevant experience and flexible working time.
