FACULTY IN MARRIAGE AND FAMILY THERAPY

POSITION:  The Fresno Pacific University Biblical Seminary is accepting applications for one full-time teaching faculty position in the Marriage and Family Therapy program. The position includes faculty rank and continuing status (tenure) track for a 9-month faculty appointment.

STARTING DATE:  July 1, 2021

Applications will be reviewed as they are received.  An appointment will be made as soon as a suitable candidate is discerned.

OPPORTUNITY

The Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT) program is a vibrant, rapidly growing program situated within the Biblical Seminary at Fresno Pacific University offered at the main campus location in Fresno, California. MFT faculty members are known for their engagement and transformative work with students and in local communities. Fresno County is ethnically diverse and has several of the deepest pockets of poverty in the United States. The MFT program prepares students to serve a diverse, multicultural clientele and engage with people who are at-risk, underserved, or marginalized. Spanish and/or Hmong-speaking faculty applicants are highly desired.

ROLE

The Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT) program is looking for one full-time faculty member to join a collaborative faculty team and diverse student body.  Primary faculty duties include teaching varied graduate courses, engaging in academic and formative advising, participating in department, Seminary, and University service, and positive community investment within the Central Valley. A defined research agenda and engagement in some scholarly activity is expected. Significant counseling experience is required. License or license eligibility within California as a marriage and family therapist or clinical psychologist is preferred, with associated professional licensing considered. AAMFT and/or CAMFT supervisor designation or candidate certification strongly preferred.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The MFT program is intentionally placed within the Seminary at Fresno Pacific University. MFT faculty function as part of an interdisciplinary team in Seminary operations alongside faculty in Bible, Theology, Pastoral Ministries, Community Transformation, and Missions. Significant importance is placed on the integration of counseling, psychology, and the Christian faith within all MFT courses. In addition to emphasizing excellence in academics and clinical skill acquisition, a unique element of the MFT program at Fresno Pacific Biblical Seminary rests in its prioritization of the development of the person of the therapist. Faculty focus on intrapsychic and relational character formation to produce insightful, well-grounded clinicians prepared for the complexities of work in the counseling field. Teaching and mentoring are significant aspects of faculty investment. An entrepreneurial spirit with a view of counseling as ministry and interest in developing new avenues of reaching underserved populations is highly desired.
