Job Details

Full-time tenure track position in the Division of Education & Humanities to teach college- level education courses with a focus on the teaching of education courses transferable to four-year institutions for admission into a teacher education program. In addition to teaching, the faculty member will be responsible for the ongoing processes of curriculum development and assessment. Assists with decisions regarding instructional materials, participates in division and college-wide discussions and meetings, assists division with administrative and committee work, and fulfills other faculty responsibilities.

Examples of Duties:

  1. Delivers college-level instruction and conducts assigned classes and/or laboratories/internships by preparing and communicating the goals and activities to be involved and enforcing student safety procedures.
  2. Attends training to develop and teach online education courses.
  3. Prepares class sessions/lessons/activities.
  4. Develops, revises, and provides course syllabus in accord with College and Divisional policies and practices.
  5. Coordinates laboratory/clinical/internship programs as developed.
  6. Maintains necessary academic records and submits records according to published deadlines.
  7. Communicates effectively in teaching/learning situations, both orally and in written form, by providing students with assistance, timely feedback, and maintaining office hours and voice/e-mail communications.
  8. Provides career and academic advice with referrals to Support Services, as needed.
  9. Develops curriculum, reviews and selects textbooks and other instructional materials.
  10. Develops and revises degree and certificate programs.                                                                     
  11. Participates in articulation efforts of courses and programs and in course/program review for evaluation purposes.
  12. Possesses the capability to deliver online lessons to students.
  13. Maintains professional competence by participating in on-going clinical practice, continuing education, professional conferences, research, and writing relevant to faculty responsibilities.
  14. Assists in establishing Divisional and College goals by assessing new equipment and/or materials.
  15. Collaborates with university colleagues and faculty in local elementary schools
  16. Collaborates with other faculty in the development of effective teaching/learning and retention strategies.
  17. Demonstrates fairness and flexibility in interactions with a diverse student population.
  18. Participates in College governance and operations through Division and College committees.
  19. Fulfills campus-wide responsibilities and participates in a reasonable number of College-sponsored activities, including Commencement.
  20. Performs all other duties, as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Elementary Education or Early Childhood Education from an accredited university or a closely related in field in education (i.e. Curriculum and Instruction, etc.) required, Doctorate preferred.
  • Teaching experience at the college/university level preferred; experience in and/or ability to deliver online instruction desired
  • A minimum of 5 years of teaching experience in K-6 settings
  • Demonstrated competency using new technologies (such as iPads, Interactive Whiteboards, web-based teaching) to support instruction
  • Evidence of collaborative work with K-6 schools
  • Professional experience with special education population preferred
  • Knowledge of the Praxis Core and the ability to help establish tutorial help for education students in passing the Praxis Core.
  • Ability to design and implement successful pedagogical strategies for students exhibiting a broad range of abilities
  • Utilization of innovative teaching methods incorporating technology, including on-line resources
  • Commitment and ability to utilize instructional strategies to promote student recruitment, retention, and success
  • Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form
  • Possess the ability to work well and communicate effectively with prospective and current students, staff, faculty, administration, and colleagues and community partners
  • Demonstrated cultural competence, sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff and a commitment to a student-centered environment
