Position Summary(Basic Job Function)
This is a temporary or an on-call position. Provides technical support. Responsibilities may include computer programming or operations; research support; medical patient care; technical equipment maintenance, repair, fabrication or operation; or other technical support functions.
Unit Position SummaryThe Hatchery Production Technician will be primarily responsible for day to day fish production operations at a lake sturgeon streamside rearing facility.
Primary Duties
Assist with lake sturgeon production and research at the Black River Streamside Facility in Cheboygan County, MI. Assist in day-to-day hatchery operation including food culture and administration, tank maintenance, monitoring water quality, biosecurity, and facility maintenance, data base management of growth and mortality.
Additional Duties
Successful applicant will assist with the collection and fertilization of eggs from fish and will care for and clean developing eggs during egg incubation. Technician will be expected to build and maintain research enclosures. Technician will be responsible for maintaining hatchery data and water quality. Fish may require prophylactic and chemotherapeutic treatment, which will be conducted by the technician under the supervision of the Facility Supervisor according to approved animal use and care protocols. Technician will assist in the tagging and release of 1,500 lake sturgeon.

Salary: Minimum $13/hr. This is a 5-month position (April – August). Flexible start and end dates to accommodate academic calendar. Position ends 31 August 2019. The selected applicant will be provided with room and board near the field site in Cheboygan County, MI for the duration of the field season. Necessary field equipment will be provided.
Desired QualificationsRequired Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in fisheries, aquaculture, or related natural resources field. A valid driver’s license is required. Additional required skills include: basic construction, electrical, plumbing, and equipment operation and maintenance. Experience in data base management and analysis including use of Microsoft Office software is required. Applicant should be able to demonstrate abilities to work independently and as part of a team.
Desired Qualifications
Preference will be given to candidate who have fish culture experience. Additional preference to candidate with experience identifying aquatic insects
