Job Summary/Basic Function:

PRIMARY DAILY RESPONSIBILITY:
Assist the STAR Services Associate Director with managing Tutoring Services.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Student Support Specialist for Tutoring Services is a full-time professional staff position who is responsible for managing the day to day operations of Tutoring services, which includes tutoring and collaborative learning programs designed to help students succeed at Lamar University. This position reports to the Associate Director of STAR Services and collaborates extensively within STAR Services, as well as across campus with academic and student service departments, faculty, and staff.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
•Assist Associate Director with developing, implementing, and managing tutoring and collaborative learning programs
•Manage and train student staff utilizing College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) guidelines and standards
•Create and oversee schedules and sessions for tutors and collaborative learning leaders
•Utilize EAB Navigate system for appointments, communication, and reporting
•Assist with advancing partnerships with multiple departments and individuals across campus
•Assist with marketing and promoting services
•Assist with assessing, evaluating, and growing programs
•Participate in professional development and tutoring, collaborative learning, and student success research

Minimum Qualifications:

QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university with one year of relevant experience required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
•Knowledge of tutoring and collaborative learning best practices, program development, and learning development theory
•Superior oral/written communication skills
•Computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft applications
•High level organizational and interpersonal skills
•Demonstrated ability to participate in a highly collaborative work environment
•Demonstrated ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds
•Ability to represent Lamar University with high levels of professionalism and customer service

Preferred Qualifications:

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Master’s degree preferred with at least three years of experience working in tutoring in higher education, program management, and knowledge of the university educational system and student retention.
