Normal Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm
Job Summary: Provides independent, routine safety consultation services including onsite visits to businesses and industries in Alabama.
Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in engineering, safety science, industrial management, public health, or physical sciences and two (2) years of occupational safety experience in a variety of industrial settings; OR Master's degree or higher in engineering, safety science, industrial management, public health, or physical sciences and one (1) year of occupational safety experience in a variety of industrial settings.
Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Must be willing and able to travel out-of-state, including overnight stays, primarily for training purposes. Must have valid U.S. driver's license. Must be at least 21 years of age at time of hire and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report as determined by the insurance carrier.
Skills and Knowledge: Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills. Basic skills in the use of personal computers. Must be will and able to travel to remote, out-of-town locations within the state using a personal vehicle for at least three days per week (to include overnight stays) with travel reimbursement per University policy. Must have valid U.S. driver's license and a privately owned vehicle for transportation. Willing to take medical exams periodically, if & when necessary, as required by OSHA regulations. Able to do significant standing & walking daily, lifting equipment of up to 50 pounds, prolonged driving, and climbing usually three times per week.
Preferred Qualifications: A working knowledge of OSHA safety and health regulations is desirable, especially as related to OSHA 21 (d) Consultation Program.
