Will manage expense processes and do detailed work in the areas of compliance and accreditation. Establish and maintain critical office systems and protocols, including document management system and other systems required to improve efficiency, information sharing and shared learning.

The Center for Healthcare Improvement and Patient Safety’s mission is to develop the next generation of quality improvement leaders, foster academic productivity at Penn and beyond, and to build health system partnerships to advance quality and safety. CHIPS is at the forefront of US academic institutions developing and implementing world class innovative educational programs designed to facilitate training of clinicians and translational scientists to become leaders in the field of healthcare quality and patient safety. The educational offerings include a concentration within Penn’s Master of Health Policy Research Program, a certificate program, and a new master degree program in Healthcare Quality and Safety (MHQS). Currently, there are 48 students enrolled in these three programs. Student learners in the new MHQS will be heterogeneous and include Penn faculty, postgraduate medical and nursing trainees, medical, veterinary, dental and doctoral faculty, and healthcare administrators.

The Associate Director (AD) for the Center for Healthcare Quality and Patient Safety (CHIPS) is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing these programs. The AD will oversee the logistical arrangements for new and existing courses including managing Canvas, the learning management system, Curriculum Manager, the course inventory management, and SRS, the course section management system. The AD will work closely with the CHIPS Director, Co-Director and Core Faculty in the development, implementation, and updating of the curricula. The AD will provide academic and operational management for the curricula.

The AD is will be responsible for managing the admissions process including student recruitment, application submission, application review, committee interviews, and student selection and the transition of applicant data into the student information system. The AD will have responsibility for tracking student progress, maintaining student records, evaluating completion of degree requirements, and student billing. The AD will work closely with the business coordinator in the Office of Masters Programs, and each business administrator in the trainee’s various home departments and provide term reports on tuition financial management. The AD will also assist faculty in grant writing for new initiatives and reporting on progress to funding agencies.

This position provides oversight and promotes professional development for the CHIPS faculty and trainees.

In addition to the formal coursework, CHIPS has a professional development series for its post-doctoral trainees and is core to faculty development across all tracks at the Perelman School of Medicine. The AD will have knowledge in key areas such as physician investigator career paths, team science, communication, mentoring relationships, and additional soft skills critical to career success. Maintaining stakeholder relationships is considered critical for CHIPS’ capstone, courses, and career development activities including internal topic-specific experts, health system leaders, and the office of Faculty Affairs and Professional Development. Externally, the AD will manage credentialing for the new MHQS with the Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Management Education (CAHME) and will promote the program nationally.

Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree with 2-3 years of related experience (3-5 preferred) or equivalent combination of education and experience is required; Master's Degree preferred.
