Job Description Summary

The Research Specialist A/B will be working with the Principal Investigator (PI) and assisting other laboratory members to conduct scientific experiments on ongoing projects of targeted nanohydrogel inner ear approaches and nanodialysis for the treatment of inner ear diseases, and nanomolecular therapy for the head and neck cancer treatment. The position requires experience and skills in molecular and cell biology, in vitro and ex vivo experiments, hearing evaluation (auditory brainstem response) in vivo and inner ear morphology study. He/she must be able to identify and resolve technical issues to implement assigned projects. He/she will collect, evaluate and interpret data, and be responsible for laboratory maintenance including existing animal protocols.

In addition, the Research Specialist B will be responsible for drafting scientific papers and help for grant applications.

The job pay range encompasses the full range of employees from new hires to the salaries of current Penn employees with many years of experience and seniority and is not a precise indicator of salaries of new hires when looking at the top end.

Qualifications:

Research Specialist A: Bachelor's Degree with 0-1 year of related experience in research and clinical study methodologies

Research Specialist B: Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry or Molecular Biology and 1-3 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience are required. Must have strong organizational skills, good written and verbal communication skills, be able to learn new techniques and analytical methods, and must be a reliable and enthusiastic team player. Training and mentoring will be provided.

This position is contingent upon funding.

Physical Effort:

The research laboratories including sound-proof room, data analysis room, microscope room, tissue culture room and animal procedure room, it requires extensive safety training and/or requires protective devices.
