Life Science Research Professional 2🔍School of Medicine, Stanford, California, United States📁Research📅Mar 09, 2021 Post Date📅87825 Requisition #The de Jesus Perez lab in the Division of Pulmonary, Allergy and Critical Care Medicine (PACCM) is seeking a Life Science Research Professional 2 (LSRP2) to join its vibrant community of scientists and clinical researchers dedicated to the study of pulmonary vascular diseases. For the past 10 years, our lab has been interested in bridging the gap between pathogenesis and novel treatment interventions for pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). To carry out this work, our group has developed novel cell and animal models to dissect how genes and environment interact to trigger the development of endothelial injury and vascular pathology. We are eager to recruit a highly motivated candidate who will be taking responsibilities for conducting animal studies aimed at testing novel compounds to treat PAH together with mechanistic studies using human and animal derived cell models. In addition to the assigned project, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with our highly collaborative group composed of basic scientist, physicians and physician scientists from within our division as well as from other departments on campus.

The LSRP 2 will contribute to all aspects of ongoing research projects including collecting samples, conducting experiments, reviewing literature, preparing interpretation and summaries of results, participating in conferences, and lab management duties. Specific responsibilities include: Human and/or mouse sample collection, RNA Scope, Western blot, DNA and RNA extraction and quantification, Quantitative PCR, Immunohistochemistry, cell imaging, other cellular and molecular biology techniques. In vivo studies include cardiac hemodynamics, echocardiography, drug delivery, heart/lung harvesting, and cell isolation.

Duties include:

• Independently conduct a portion of the research project(s). Make recommendations on experimental design and/or research direction to principal investigator.
• Independently conduct complex (lab and/or field) experiments to gather data for a portion of a major research project.
• Interpret and analyze results, often where few guidelines exist, and make modifications to existing procedures and protocols.
• Develop new research protocols where appropriate protocols are not described in the literature or where modification or adaptation of standard procedures and protocols is required.
• Participate in multidisciplinary teams across different faculties or schools.
• Perform ongoing literature review to remain current with new procedures and related research; apply to ongoing research and development of new protocols.
• Contribute substantively to the preparation of papers for publication, especially in the results section, and to publication of findings. Present ongoing work to colleagues and/or academic conferences.
• Oversee supply and equipment budget under supervision of principal investigator or business manager.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Master’s degree or PhD in molecular biology or related.
• Demonstrated ability in histology techniques and tissue sectioning.
• Demonstrated hands-on experience in confocal and fluorescent microscopy
• Experience with cell culture and techniques in molecular biology (e.g. qPCR, WB etc.).
• Experience with breeding and handling transgenic mice and rats.
• Experience with echocardiography, animal surgery techniques and hemodynamic measurements.
• Three years of related research experience.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):

• Bachelor's degree in related scientific field and two years of relevant work experience; or Master’s degree in a related scientific field.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED):

• Comprehensive understanding of scientific principles.
• General computer skills and ability to quickly learn and master computer programs, databases, and scientific applications.
• Strong analytical skills and excellent judgment.
• Ability to maintain detailed records of experiments and outcomes.
• Ability to work under deadlines with general guidance is essential.
• Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated ability to accurately complete detailed work.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:

• Rarely climb, scrub, sweep, mop, chop and mix or operate hand and foot controls.
