Founded in 1881, Spelman College is a private four-year liberal arts college located in Atlanta, GA. The oldest historically Black college for women in the United States, Spelman is a member of the Atlanta University Center Consortium and Atlanta Regional Consortium for Higher Education. All tenure-track candidates are expected to have a demonstrated interest in liberal arts and sciences education, contribute effectively to undergraduate teaching, assist in curriculum development, provide service to the department and College, as well as be active in scholarly, creative, and/or research productivity appropriate to a liberal arts environment.

Position Summary:

The International Studies Program invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin August 2021. We seek an outstanding teacher/scholar with cutting-edge expertise in one or more of the following areas: global inequalities, human rights, migration and diaspora, global social justice, peace and conflicts, and international security. The successful candidate may have a doctorate in International/Global Affairs, Sociology, Anthropology, Political Science, Geography, Ethnic Studies, or a related area, with a commitment to interdisciplinarity. In addition to introducing new courses into the curriculum, the candidate should be able to teach one or more of the following: Introduction to International, Global, or Diaspora Studies; Interdisciplinary Methodologies; Senior Thesis. The position requires contributing effectively to curriculum development efforts, advising and mentoring students, providing service to the program and college, and engaging in original research. The International Studies Program is interested in candidates who will advance the curriculum geographically, theoretically and pedagogically.
Candidates with a demonstrated commitment to working with women and underrepresented minority students through teaching, mentoring, and research are especially encouraged to apply.


Ph.D. in International/Global Affairs, Sociology, Anthropology, Political Science, Geography, Ethnic Studies, or a related area by July 1, 2021. Post-doctoral experience preferred.
