PRIMARY FUNCTION(S): Provide comprehensive primary health care.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Patient screening, including interviews and history taking, physical examination with assessment, and treatment or referral to physician (according to established protocols). Routine physical examinations, including but not limited to gynecological exams with contraceptive counseling, prescribing, and follow-up, travel examinations including immunization counseling and prescribing, and sport physicals.
Routine hours of duty: 25 hours weekly with an unpaid meal break of 1 hour daily during the academic year. Weeks of work to be determined by the academic calendar and the Nursing Coordinator, with vacation and holiday time as directed by the college’s schedule and the nurses’ contract.
After hours and weekends on-call is a component of this position.
Education/Experience: A minimum of one year of general nursing practice in an outpatient setting. Must be currently licensed in the state of Massachusetts as a Registered Nurse.
Skills: Leadership in professional and personal relationships, ability to work and communicate effectively with other members of the Health Service staff, students, and college employees. Ability and willingness to accept responsibility. Flexibility in personal and professional relationships in order to adapt to changing roles in college health service practices. Must be able to communicate effectively with a diverse population. Must have a thorough knowledge of general nursing theory and practice, including the basic fields related to nursing such as biological, physical, social and medical sciences and their application for a better understanding of patient care problems along with a thorough knowledge of current clinical practice. A sincere interest in, and understanding of, young women, including developmental, social, psychological and health issues.
