To help support the continued growth of the University, Gradate Assistantships (GA) are available that provide an excellent opportunity to "Earn as you Learn". All the GA positions combine a professional part-time position pay of up to $6,000.00 and 50% tuition discount. These are two year appointed positions. Positions are available in the following disciplines:
MFA in Creative Writing
Master of Science in Biology
Master of Sustainability

Qualifications:

AVAILABLE POSITIONS
Job Title: Science Lab Assistant (2 positions)
Eligible Programs: Master of Science in Biology
Position Reports to: Science Chair, MS Biology Program Director, and appropriate Lab Coordinator
Position Summary:
This position is responsible for delivering services and instruction related to introductory science labs for undergraduate majors. Working in close association with lab coordinators, the lab assistant will help with instruction and safety management of labs. The lab assistant will also provide office hours for students, grading support, and other services, as directed by lab coordinators.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Chemistry, or closely related fieldEvidence of introductory biology lab and introductory chemistry lab completion at the undergraduate level. Demonstrated academic success is preferred.Availability on nights and weekends.Excellent leadership, organizational and communication skills.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Work with lab coordinators to design and prep undergraduate introductory science labs.Work with lab coordinators to develop lab safety protocols and a system for their implementation.Provide laboratory instruction under the supervision of lab coordinators.Grade laboratory assignments and provide feedback to students.Maintain office hours for student assistance.Other duties as defined by lab coordinators.
Job Title: Forester (2 positions)
Eligible Programs: Master Sustainability
Positions Summary: The Forester positions will be offered to a new student in the graduate program in Sustainability.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Forestry, Forest Ecosystem Management, Environmental Resource Management or related area. A bachelor's degree in another area, combined with experience working in a forestry related field may be substituted.
- The position requires rigorous physical exertion including, but not limited to, traversing uneven, rugged terrain in inclement weather and the ability to lift and move heavy objects.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform a variety of outdoor assignments, which allow the public to safely access and enjoy the Eden Hall woodlands. Duties include, but are not limited to, clearing downed trees from hiking trails and helping to remove invasive plant species.
- Help to promote the woodlands as an organizing focus for community development among students at Eden Hall and on all campuses of Chatham University.
- Plan and implement community service projects and citizen engagement activities focused on trail improvement/enhancement.
- Develop citizen science programming to involve the community in collecting, analyzing, and making conclusions about woodlands data. May involve science education and communication product content development.
- Create and promote recreational opportunities in the woodlands.
- Produce interpretive educational materials including signage, posters, brochure, and web content.
- Support the creation of an Eden Hall Forest website as part of the larger site with information about all of the data collected through class activities, citizen engagement projects, etc.
- Assist with the DCNR grant for the development of a Master Plan for Eden Hall trails and help to maintain project momentum by tracking progress toward goals and deadlines. Requires interaction with Study Committee and the landscape architect firm.
- Collaborate with external groups like the Audubon Society, the Western Pennsylvania Mushroom Society, and others to build capacity and educational/recreational offerings.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of silviculture, reforestation, and wildlife habitat.
- Knowledge of forest management policies and practices.
- Knowledge of fundamental concepts of Geographic Information Systems.
- Knowledge of forest practices as they relate to ecosystem management principles.
- Ability to identify different types of plants, animals and habitats.
- Ability to operate and maintain various equipment and tools, and use proper safety methods.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
Job Title: Development Writing Advancement (1 position)
Eligible Programs: Master of Creative Writing
Positions Summary: The Forester positions will be offered to a new student in the graduate program in Sustainability.
Chatham University has an opening for a Development Writer in its office of University Advancement.
The Development Writer position will be offered to a new student in select graduate programs starting fall 2019 at Chatham University.
Qualifications:
- Must hold a bachelor's degreeMust be enrolled in 9 credits per term for fall, spring and/or summer. Each program has different summer requirements and/or class availability. Must work 19 hours per week (not to exceed 545 total hours in a calendar year) from August 15, 2019 through August 15, 2020 during regular business hours (or off hours as determined by the position/supervisor). Strong written and oral communication skills Must have valid driver's license
Duties and Responsibilities:
The position will provide writing and editing for a variety of projects, including grant proposals and reports, corporate sponsorship packages, donor stewardship reports, annual fund appeals, special acknowledgements, white papers and donor recognition publications.Experience: Required skills include exemplary writing skills with samples of writing for a variety of projects. Strong verbal communication skills, proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel, and ability to quickly learn and utilize proprietary educational software. Must function comfortably in a team structure and be able to work effectively on deadlines.
