Job Description:

The employee will work with the Southern Region Field Coordinator to interact with stakeholders and identify pest management priorities in specialty crop production to develop a pesticide field research program. The position will assist in the management of field trials that are organized within several programs: 1) Magnitude of Residue trials in which samples are collected from agricultural commodities including fruits, vegetables, fresh and dried herbs, nuts, oils, etc. and are conducted in compliance with EPA Good Laboratory Practice regulations and Standard Operating Procedures, 2) Product Performance to evaluate efficacy and crop safety of plant protection products, 3) Integrated Solutions to screen performance of conventional and biopesticide products, and 4) Environmental Horticulture to facilitate regulatory approval of sustainable pest management technology. Essential functions include:

Assist Regional Field Coordinator and scientists to successfully plan, conduct and report on IR-4 sponsored research with crop protection tools on specialty crops, including maintaining communication with individuals, keeping track of status of active studies, critical phases of research, and when research reports are received.

Assist the Regional Field Coordinator to maintain up-to-date information on file. Retains records and archive documents after projects close.

Provide assistance to the Regional Field Coordinator to conduct Quality Control (QC) audits and review Standard Operating Procedure for all field sites in meeting GLP standards for the program.

Make site visits to IR-4 Field Centers to ensure that field sites are adequately supported to conduct acceptable residue trials under Good Laboratory Practices (GLP).

Assist in organizing research priorities from stakeholders.

Conduct outreach to help promote the IR-4 Project, attend grower and professional meetings, and make presentations to appropriate groups.

Expected Salary:

$35,000 - $45,000 annually; Commensurate with experience

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Prefer incumbent to have at least three years of relevant experience.
MS degree in a field of science such as agriculture or biological sciences, preferably with specialties in entomology, plant pathology, pest control, integrated pest management or other related areas.
Knowledge in database management and web design.
Knowledge of and ability to use basic office support tools, such as MS Word & Excel, email, and internet. Employee helps resources (manuals, online help, help desk) as needed.
