Job Description:

The Department of Medicine, Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine is accepting applications for a Lab Tech II in Dr. Carl Atkinson’s lab. The position will assist in conducting research within Dr. Atkinson’s lab and utilizing and developing methods to measure various biological responses specific to respiratory disease and organ transplantation. Job Duties/responsibilities will include but not limited to:

- Conduct research studies to support the scientific interests of the principal investigator. Utilize and develop methods to measure various biological responses. Planning and performing small animal surgery on mice. Plan, develop and conduct animal experiments outlined by the Principal Investigator. Maintenance of cell lines and transgenic mouse breeding and generation of primary cell cultures from animal tissue.

- Conduct scientific experiments designed and outlined by the principal investigator to support the research interest of the laboratory, including histology, immunohistochemistry, flow cytometry, PCR and RNA, DNA and protein analysis and transfection studies. Develop new laboratory procedures. Analyze data and help prepare scientific manuscripts and presentations.

- Order laboratory supplies, keep records of ordering. Maintenance of lab equipment, stock supplies. Keep records of laboratory protocols and maintenance of a complete laboratory notebook.

- Train lab personnel in following University policies and safety regulations. Train less experienced personnel. Instruct students and technical staff in laboratory procedures. Attend weekly lab meetings. Liaison with visiting professors/researchers and develop excellent communications with collaborators.

Expected Salary:

$14.60 - $18.25 /hour

Minimum Requirements:

Associate's degree in an appropriate area and two years of related experience; or a high school diploma or equivalent and four years of related experience. Appropriate college course work or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preferred applicant will have a degree in biology or a related field and 3+ years of experience in a laboratory environment.
