Job Description

PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

It is the responsibility of the teaching positions to provide the learning activities and support that will lead to the achievement of the course objectives and contribute to the educational environment of the college and the community. Primary responsibilities are to plan, develop and teach courses within the curriculum in a manner that facilitates student learning.

Part-time CC Instructors are hired in a part-time capacity on a semester-by-semester basis, contingent upon the needs of the College. Lone Star College accepts applications year-round from qualified applicants willing to teach on a part-time basis. Part-time Instructor hiring is based on student demand. We offer day, evening, and weekend classes at various times and locations during the academic year. As a rule, adjunct faculty may teach a maximum of five classes per academic year.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Develops and delivers English-as-a-Second Language, Foreign Languages, or Adult Education courses and related materials in support of training objectives
  2. Reviews course content and objectives
  3. Conducts training sessions and provide feedback for evaluating the effectiveness of training activities
  4. Maintains current knowledge in the profession
  5. Responsible for other reasonable, related duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Mastery of course content
  • Ability to work with clients to coordinate schedules, meet customized needs, and give course feedback
  • Knowledge and skills in implementing a language and/or basic skills learning program for adults in a corporate or industry setting; global language and culture experience
  • Specific experience applying appropriate instructional methods and resources to achieve measurable gains; face-to-face, blended, online

PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items, such as papers, books, or small parts; or driving an automobile. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.

WORK SCHEDULE & CONDITIONS:

  • Typically works any time between 6am and 6pm. Instructors are required to meet with classes at all scheduled times and be available to students outside of class instruction
  • Equipment used: PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone and other general office equipment
  • Internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position
  • Work is performed in a climate-controlled office, classroom or lab environment with minimal exposure to safety hazards

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or GED and at least 10 years of verified paid work experience teaching adults English-as-a-Second Language, Foreign Languages, or Adult Education instructor

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Advanced training and/or certification in a field related to English-as-a-Second Language, foreign language, or Adult Education
Salary

$43.75 per contact hour.
