About This Position
The Department of Public Health Sciences at the University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine, has an exciting opportunity for a temporary, part-time Research Associate. The Research Associate supports research activities for Public Health Sciences by conducting laboratory experiments on assigned research projects. Moreover, the Research Associate operates with the goal of advancing his/her expertise through continued education, training, and research.
The duties and responsibilities for this position may include, but are not limited to:
RNA/DNA, protein and lipid extraction and analysis
Conduct in-vitro, in-vivo and ex-vivo experiment independently
Extract DNA, RNA, Protein and lipids and analyze them using various methods, including ELISA and LC/MS
Conduct literature review and meta-analysis
Ensure accurate written and computerized records
Conduct data consolidation and review for sites; assists sites’ staff in set-up, testing, and implementation of data collection software; trouble shoots data submissions, warehoused data and data errors including quality control of data collection. Establishes procedures for data sharing across research sites.
Maintain appropriate databases, collects and analyzes data as requested; conducts preliminary data analyses including scoring of quantitative assessments,coding of qualitative data and data analyses using statistical software and packages, such as R and STATA.
Assist with research projects by 1) preparing data for study progress reports, 2) preparing literature review materials for publications, 3) reviews and edits various materials for publication; reviews abstracts and background material for scholarly publications.
Bachelor's Degree in a basic science field of study. Prefer a person with a strong background in biology and chemistry. Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail. Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines. Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion. Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary. Commitment to the University’s core values. Ability to work independently and/or in a collaborative environment.
