Departmental Overview

Housed within the Division of Equity & Inclusion, the Center for Educational Partnerships (CEP) is the primary unit on campus charged with developing and implementing programs and strategies to improve academic preparation, expand educational opportunities, and ensure access to higher education and to the University of California for low-income and educationally-disadvantaged students.

Working in partnership with over 125 schools and 68 California community colleges each year, CEP improves academic achievement and expands post-secondary educational opportunities for students who face significant barriers to college. CEP's programs help young people overcome educational and financial barriers to prepare for and be accepted at two- or four-year colleges. Eleven programs provide services free-of-charge to well over 75,000 students annually including summer programs that give hundreds of students academic enrichment while some actually experience student life at the campus of the University of California in Berkeley. CEP's school-wide/systemic change programs help build college-going cultures in schools and districts by serving teachers, counselors, administrators and families.
Destination College Advising Corps (DCAC) is a University of California-sponsored program within CEP that prepares high school students from under-resourced communities for admission to the University of California and other colleges and universities. Through the work of College Advising Fellows, DCAC completes its mission by offering intensive college access services, providing timely college preparation information and advising, and supporting our students, families, schools and communities. Services offered include academic advising, whole school events and activities, and information dissemination to students, schools, and families on the educational and social benefits of post-secondary education throughout California.

Written and verbal assignments are given by the DCAC Co-Directors. The incumbent is expected to perform assignments with a high degree of autonomy relying on industry expertise to ensure the best results. Regular communication and consultation with school administrators is required.
