Rutgers University–Camden invites nominations and applications for the position of Chancellor.
Founded in 1926 as the South Jersey Law School, and joining Rutgers in 1950, Rutgers University–Camden is a leader in education and research. Rutgers–Camden enrolls over 7,200 undergraduate and graduate students, employs more than 1,300 faculty and staff, and has over 55,000 alumni. Rutgers University–Camden offers 38 undergraduate majors and 29 graduate programs, across four schools and colleges, with an average class size of 24 students and a 10:1 student to faculty ratio. An R2 University, the institution is comprised of the College of Arts and Science and its Graduate School, the School of Business, Rutgers Law School, and the School of Nursing. Rutgers University–Camden boasts a unique student body, 25% of whom are first-generation students and more than 50% are from underrepresented racial or ethnic backgrounds.
The Chancellor for Rutgers University–Camden has direct responsibility for the daily administration of the southernmost of four regional campuses comprising Rutgers. The institution is located in the University District of Camden, a city nationally known for its determination and resilience, in the heart of the metro Philadelphia region. The Chancellor serves as the chief executive officer of Rutgers University–Camden, overseeing an annual budget of more than $173 million. The Chancellor reports to the Rutgers President as a member of his cabinet and a key partner on the University’s executive team. Rutgers University–Camden is an anchor institution in the city and the region, and the Chancellor plays a leadership role in the revitalization of Camden and southern New Jersey, serving as a partner with other institutions and businesses in promoting the economic, social, and cultural development of the fastest-growing region in New Jersey.
The Chancellor is responsible for maintaining and advancing the dynamic national and international profile of the institution. Rutgers University–Camden is home to world-class Rutgers research faculty, renowned academic departments and programs, including innovative, multidisciplinary PhD programs, a diverse and engaged student body inclusive of students from across the nation and the globe, and a research portfolio with nearly $20 million in grant awards for FY2020. Critically important will be the Chancellor’s commitment to enhancing the research mission and aspirations of the Camden campus. The Chancellor also works collaboratively across Rutgers to define and advance the Camden campus experience and mission. The Chancellor is responsible for working within an enrollment-driven budgeting environment to enhance state and tuition revenues by developing innovative and relevant programs. Serving as the primary representative of Rutgers to the community, the Chancellor also is a driving force, forging partnerships with public and private institutions in the region and working to improve the quality of life of community members. Additionally, Rutgers University–Camden has earned the National Carnegie Community Engagement Classification, considered widely to be a signature accomplishment and a demonstration of the intrinsic value of connecting the assets and resources of the University with the surrounding community.

The ideal candidate will have: substantive fiscal and personnel management experience and a strong business acumen; a high level of cultural competency and a demonstrated commitment to the values of equity, inclusion, and social justice; experience leading a complex organization; a successful track record of fundraising and institutional and community development; a foundational understanding of—and deep respect for—shared governance and faculty and student engagement; and a record of accomplishment engaging with and supporting local and regional urban communities.
