The Veterinary Service Center (VSC) at Stanford University provides Laboratory Animal Care and operates within the Department of Comparative Medicine. We are fully accredited by the Association for Accreditation and Assessment of Laboratory Animal Care (AAALAC). Our vision is to pioneer in laboratory animal care, driving research innovations from bench to bedside.

The Veterinary Service Center within the Department of Comparative Medicine is seeking a full time Custodian to perform the following duties and responsibilities: Clean and sanitize restrooms and locker rooms, empty wastebaskets and trash containers including those containing hazardous waste; clean, mop, wash and vacuum a variety of floors, floor coverings, ceilings, guard rails using light cleaners, waxers, and buffers etc.; dust and clean a variety of building furnishings, such as lamps, mirrors, door and window glass and fixtures, and furniture; report needed building and equipment repairs; maintain outside walk areas including sweeping debris and washing walkways, as well as additional duties as assigned.


The successful candidate must be able to work in an environment where there is high exposure to dust and/or other

allergens. The Custodian must possess the ability to withstand extensive walking, pushing, pulling, stooping, and squatting and may be required to lift moderately heavy items, ranging from 25 to 50 pounds. He/She must also have the ability to climb and work from stepladders. Knowledge of environmental and safety requirements related to custodial services and tasks is a must. Knowledge of cleaning and waxing methods, materials and equipment used in industrial cleaning is desirable, but may be learned on the job. Ability to understand work instructions given in English, either verbally or in writing and a High School Diploma is required. Prior experience in a research animal facility preferred.
