Summary of Duties:

The Department of Accounting at Washington State University (WSU) is seeking qualified candidates for a permanent full-time tenure track position at the Pullman, WA campus, subject to budget approval. We will consider candidates at the rank of assistant, associate or full professor. Duties include teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses in accounting, including online courses.

The successful candidate is expected to conduct high quality academic research in accounting leading to publications in top tier academic accounting journals and provide service to the department, the Carson College of Business (CCB), the university and the profession commensurate with rank.

The City

The Carson College of Business
The Carson College of Business (CCB) enrolls more than 2,500 undergraduate students and 1,200 online MBA and Executive MBA students combined. The Online MBA program is currently ranked 12th by Poets and Quants and 18th by U.S. News and World Report. The college has 92 full-time faculty across its campuses and 75 staff. WSU has a set goal to advance the college’s commitment to diversity and multiculturalism with respect to research, teaching and community outreach, incorporating relevant programs, goals and activities. A strong global perspective is encouraged. To promote global awareness and capability for our students, the college also offers faculty-led study abroad programs in Belize, China, Egypt, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Romania & Croatia, Spain Switzerland, and Thailand.
The Department of Accounting
WSU operates as an integrated university. Thus, all Accounting faculty regardless of campus location are full members of the Department of Accounting. The business curricula at all campuses are accredited together as one curriculum by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). Both the Carson College and the Department of Accounting AACSB accreditations were renewed for five years in 2019. The Department of Accounting is home to one of only 176 undergraduate accounting programs worldwide that is separately accredited by the AACSB. WSU is a premier research institution with ambitions to grow. WSU is ranked as a “very high research activity” (R1) institution by the Carnegie Foundation. The university is now engaged in developing a strategic plan for the next five years as it works toward its vision, “Drive to 25,” with the goal of becoming one of the top 25 public research universities in the country by 2030.

Required Qualifications:

Applicants for an Assistant Professor position must have an earned doctorate in Accounting or closely related field from a nationally or internationally recognized university by the appointment start date and demonstrate potential for excellence in teaching and research. Applicants for more senior appointments, Associate or Full Professor, must have an earned doctorate in accounting or closely related field a nationally or internationally recognized university and a demonstrated record of publications commensurate with rank, along with evidence of excellence in teaching and a desire to take an active role working with doctoral students.

Preferred Qualifications:

Individuals with teaching and research interests in all areas of accounting will be considered, with individuals demonstrating expertise and/or teaching interest in more than one area of accounting preferred.

Three (3) letters of recommendation are required for the final candidates and will be requested and obtained from the reference provider through the WSU online application system.

Candidates invited to interview will be asked to submit an example of scholarly work to be presented to the faculty and PhD students during the interview process. Finalists will be required to submit a summary of recent teaching evaluations (or teaching assistant evaluations for Assistant Professor candidates if more relevant to their experience).
