Department Description:

The Thurston Arthritis Research Center (TARC) investigates the causes, consequences and treatments of arthritis and autoimmune diseases, with the objective to reduce their impact on patients, their families, and society. TARC is associated with the Division of Rheumatology, Allergy, and Immunology in the Department of Medicine.

Position Description:

The primary purpose of the position in the Thurston Arthritis Research Center (TARC) is to assist the PI and support assays as required to meet the objectives of the organizational unit. This requires that the employee provide support for laboratory operations, lab management, and overseeing safety compliance. This position will also involve research activities to include cell culture, genomic library preparation, and data analysis. A large component of this position is general laboratory management and support including participation in ordering and record keeping, compliance with health & safety procedures and technical assistance for functional experiments. The position entails extensive interpersonal interactions with other members of the laboratory including students, postdocs, technicians, and collaborators to ensure effective transfer of results.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.

Essential Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

The candidate should have strong written and oral communication skills, ability to maintain laboratory records, have the ability to work under deadlines with general guidance, and to contribute to manuscripts, grants and presentations.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preferred applicants will have one to two years experience in a molecular biology lab setting.
