Department Description:

The Carolina Institute for Developmental Disabilities (CIDD) is one of the largest programs for developmental disabilities in the country and is UNC-Chapel Hill’s primary source for treatment, education, and research on developmental disabilities. In addition, CIDD provides important, state-of-the-art resources aimed at supporting individuals with developmental disabilities and their families in the state of North Carolina and promotes research on the pathogenesis and treatment of these conditions. The CIDD employs approximately 100 faculty, staff and students and has funding comprised of state, contract and grant, overhead, gift, foundation and receipt generated sources.

Position Description:

This position in the Carolina Institute for Developmental Disabilities (CIDD) is essential to the functioning of the CIDD-UNC Pediatric Complex Care IDD Team. This position supports the key operations of the team service, supports parents directly in services acquisition, and facilitates monitoring of the service through patient tracking. This position will work directly with patient families to support acquisition of state & private services, supports, and therapies.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Essential Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

Must have experience working with clinical populations. Strong interpersonal skills are required. Must be able to work independently, with minimal supervision.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preferred if candidate is also a 1st degree relative of someone living in NC with a developmental disability to improve parent to parent relationship and improve parent activation. Lived experience with the challenges of system navigation deepens knowledge of the intricacies of the IDD system. Further, lived experience can improve the relationship with parents. The parent as resource specialist and system navigator is an established position of importance in the IDD field.
