The mission of the Institute of Cognitive Science at CU-Boulder is to understand and enhance human cognition, learning, and development through the creation of interdisciplinary partnerships. What Your Key Responsibilities Will BeWork with the human factors, human-computer interaction, learning sciences, and collaborative problem-solving subgroups of the newly established AI Research Institute for Student-AI Teaming, a 5-year, $20 million research collaboration. The goal of that institute is to reframe the role of Artificial Intelligence in education, moving towards a future where AI is viewed as a social, collaborative partner that helps students work and learn more effectively, engagingly, and equitably, while helping educators focus on what they do best: inspiring and teaching students. The candidate for this position will work towards the goals of the AI Institute by assisting in the development of frameworks for Student-AI Teaming that stem from domains such as human-agent teaming, collaborative problem solving, human performance, and the learning sciences, and the design and execution of experiments in human-agent teaming and collaborative problem-solving settings.
The candidate will be supervised by Leanne Hirshfield and Peter Foltz. The position offers outstanding postdoctoral training experience and publishing opportunities within multi-department and multi-institution grant-funded projects. The postdoc will be encouraged to strengthen their research portfolios via peer-reviewed publications, gain interdisciplinary experience by working with a diverse team, and develop leadership skills by mentoring students.What You Should Know

- 2-3 year position. The initial contract is for one year (providing renewal after a 6-month probationary period). For each consecutive year, the extension of the contract is based on performance.
- The start date is negotiable but anticipated for early 2021.
- Additional background and/or research experience in the Learning Sciences.
- Experience with experimental design, data collection, data management, statistical analyses.
