Position Highlights:

The Research Technician III selected for this position will oversee a variety of operational activities within the multi-investigator research laboratories at MRB. These activities include but are not limited to implementation of appropriate quality control standards, health and safety protocols, application of Good Laboratory Practice according to University and national requirements and guidelines, procure parts, materials, equipment and services; maintain inventories, oversee documentation that all personnel who work in the laboratory and or operate equipment are appropriately trained and qualified.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Maintains laboratory chemical, biological, and radiation safety compliance with recognized good laboratory practice, as well as with University of Arizona and all applicable national standards.
  • Updates and develops compliance protocols for internal and external environmental, health and safety regulations and guidelines.
  • Controls access to equipment.
  • Acts as liaison with University Risk Management and University Office of Radiation, Chemical and Biological Safety.
  • Orders laboratory supplies for research and training.
  • Develops and maintains database (using tools such as RedCap) of:
    1) chemicals;
    2) all equipment, including status, and use schedules of each instrument;
    3) equipment calibrations;
    4) maintenance schedules;
    5) costs associated with each instrument;
    6) faculty, student, and staff access to the laboratory;
    7) faculty, student, and staff certifications for research including: human subjects, bloodborne pathogens, chemical safety and other certifications as needed;
    8) records of individuals’ safety and equipment training; and
    9) other trackable laboratory operations.
  • Develops:
    1) training protocols and uses these to train others for use of laboratory equipment; and
    2) safety protocols and conducts/coordinates training for personnel related to all relevant laboratory processes, maintaining compliance, and “good standing” with University requirements.
  • Creates monthly and annual summary reports of training and equipment.
  • Assists researchers with budget planning and billing related to equipment use.
  • Conducts/arranges for routine maintenance and repairs.
  • Provides technical assistance as directed by supervisor.
  • Performs and trains others in basic methods of environmentalsampling and assaying.
  • Creates standard operating procedures and safety/risk assessment templates for new laboratory protocols.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent learning attained through experience required AND a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience required. ; OR an Associates' Degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through experience required AND a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience required in addition to education requirement.
  • Knowledge of RedCap

Preferred Qualifications:

*Experience in a Public Health setting. *Knowledge of Good Laboratory Practices at the University and national levels. *Knowledge of laboratory equipment
