GENERAL JOB SUMMARY: The instructor is responsible for fostering student learning through effectively teaching private music lessons in the Kirkwood liberal arts music curriculum. Teaching responsibilities include offering lessons to students of various skill levels and experience, planning lesson activities, demonstrating appropriate techniques, and evaluating and reposting student performance and progress. The ideal candidate will have the ability to teach effectively in a variety of musical styles and show evidence of successful studio teaching at the college level. Candidates should also demonstrate proven artistry as a performer. UNIVERSAL CORE COMPETENCIES: Advocate for Continual Improvement- empowering each other to identify opportunities for excellence. - Demonstrate excellence of technique and professionalism as a musician
- Be able and willing to represent the college in the most positive manner with prospective, former and current students, clients, suppliers and the community we serve.
- Be able to organize and present music concepts to a wide range of students with varying backgrounds and abilities, and adjust teaching techniques accordingly.
- Manage the lesson studio in a manner that is acceptable and consistent with the department and college objectives, guidelines, policies, and practices.
- Assume responsibility, deal effectively with problems, and exercise independent judgment when making decisions.
- Welcome, value, and nurture people of all backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences, as well as support and promote an environment that accepts differences.
Position involves sitting and/or standing most of the time in a studio setting. Frequent (34-66%) repetitive motion, stooping, crouching, pushing, puling, carrying and exerting up to 10 pounds. Also frequent (34-66%) reaching, standing, walking, lifting, grasping. Constant (67-100%) talking, hearing and viewing various types of close work. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Master of Music or Master of Arts degree in viola performance.College Teaching Experience. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS, LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS: DMA or PhD in Music Performance or Pedagogy.Ability to demonstrate successful teaching in a variety of styles.Outstanding leadership, organizational and communication skills.
