Department Summary:

The Office of Sponsored Programs, a division of the UNTHSC Research Office, provides pre-award, post-award, and accounting services for the support of faculty and other investigators while promoting compliance with federal and state agencies, private sponsor agreements, and UNTHSC research policies.

Position Overview:

The Office of Sponsored Programs, at the UNT Health Science Center, is seeking to hire a Sr. Grant and Contract Analyst to join our Pre-Award team. This candidate will provide support and guidance to faculty, staff and students in connection with externally supported research. The Sr. Grant and Contract Analyst will analyze, review, and interpret proposal guidelines to ensure that all proposals submitted are in compliance with sponsor and institutional policies. The candidate will work with the Faculty Research Support Team, department research administrators and faculty to provide grant proposal review and feedback on grant applications and budgets in preparation for submission to sponsors. This candidate will also serve as a liaison between funding agencies, department research administrators and the investigators.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree and four (4) years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in a central and/or departmental research setting.

Ability to work with precision under pressure of deadline with minimal supervision.

Experience with electronic proposal submission systems (NIH, NSF,, NSPIRES, Proposal Central, etc).

Certified Research Administrator (CRA).

Work Schedule:

Monday – Friday; 8 AM – 5 PM

Review proposals to ensure that they are in compliance with University policy, sponsor regulations, and compliant with federal and state law.


Responsible for proposal submission including, but not limited to, ensuring accuracy of budgets, institutional commitments, securing appropriate internal reviews and approvals for regulatory compliance, documenting collaborative arrangements.


Conduct Pre-Award negotiations with sponsor representatives.


Supports investigators in responding to Just-In-Time requests.


Ensures files are complete for awarded applications, secures missing information from principal investigators and/or administrators.


Tracks the status of pending applications and follows up with investigators regarding the review/funding status of applications.


Continuously develops and maintains a strong working knowledge of federal rules and regulations that govern research grants as well as stays informed about sponsor terms and conditions for submitting and administering grant awards.


Assist with development and conduct of PreAward training programs, workshops, seminars and other outreach.


Performs other related duties as assigned, including support on special projects, as required.
