This position is offered through the Office of Experiential Learning. Peer Health Exchange (PHE) is a non-profit organization that empowers young people with the knowledge, skills, and resources to make healthy decisions. We do this by training college students to teach a skills-based health curriculum in public high schools that lack health education. PHE’s vision, with our partners, is to advance health equity and improve health outcomes for young people.
NOTE: Currently this is a virtual opportunity.
EXAMPLES OF WORK:
• Learn PHE workshops and how to teach them effectively.
• Attend the mandatory Volunteer Orientation and Training Retreat.
• Attend mandatory weekly Workshop Group meetings.
• Incorporate direction and evaluation from their LC Member in order to develop and improve their teaching skills.
• Learn and commit to teaching a workshop per week in an assigned PHE partner high school.
• Build quality relationships with the students in the classroom.
• Provide weekly peer feedback to support the growth of HEs.
• Make PHE an extracurricular priority.
Currently enrolled UNT Dallas, UNT Dallas College of Law, HSC or UNT student in good standing and making satisfactory progress toward completion of a degree or certification program. Applicants must possess the following:
•Excellent customer service skills, as well as effective oral and written communication skills.
•Working knowledge of Microsoft Office computer applications (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
•Some knowledge of office practices and procedures.
•Demonstrated ability to comprehend and follow oral and written instructions accurately.
•Good interpersonal skills and ease in relating to people from varying educational, cultural and social backgrounds.
•Responsible, reliable and punctual.
•Ability to learn assigned tasks readily, to adhere to prescribed routines, and to develop some skill in the operation of common office equipment.
• Desire and ability to build strong relationship across lines of social difference, specifically race, class, gender, and sexuality.
• Committed to the PHE mission.
• Willing to develop and improve their facilitation ability.
Commit 4 – 6 hours per week, including all mandatory meetings and teaching at least one workshop a week for the entire academic year.Driving University Vehicle:
