Job Description:


Part-time HSE faculty provide effective instruction that prepares students to pass the NYS HSE exam in Spanish (TASCTM ). Faculty teach the core subject areas of the High School Equivalency exam and are responsible for supporting student's acquisition of knowledge and skills needed to pass the TASC examination in Spanish. Instructors prepare/implement lessons using contextualized curricula and support a student-centered learning environment. Instructors should be adept at engaging a diverse and non-traditional student body. In addition to teaching, instructors are expected to establish and maintain an organized and supportive classroom environment, maintain class rosters/academic progress records, work collaboratively with faculty and administrators as well as confer with the coordinator regarding any student/classroom issues. Successful candidates must take and pass a proficiency math test. Daytime and evening hours are available at the Family Partnership as well as other locations in Dutchess County for hybrid and remote instruction.

Los instructores enseñan las áreas de materias básicas del examen de equivalencia de escuela secundaria y son responsables de apoyar la adquisición del conocimiento y las habilidades necesarias para aprobar el examen TASC en español. Asimismo, preparan e implementan lecciones usando planes de estudio contextualizados y promueven un entorno de aprendizaje centrado en el estudiante. Los instructores deben ser expertos en involucrar a un cuerpo estudiantil diverso y no tradicional. Además de la enseñanza, se espera que los instructores establezcan y mantengan un ambiente de clase organizado y de apoyo, mantengan actualizadas las listas de asistencia y registros de progreso académico, trabajen en colaboración con docentes y personal administrativo y consulten con el coordinador con respecto a cualquier problema de los estudiantes o las aulas. Los candidatos seleccionados deben tomar y aprobar un examen de competencia en matemáticas. Los horarios diurnos y nocturnos están disponibles en el local del Family Partnership Center, así como en otras ubicaciones en el condado de Dutchess para instrucción híbrida y remota.



Requirements:


Bachelor's Degree and teaching experience required (minimum of 1 year)
Must be fluent in Spanish. Spanish as a primary language is a plus.
Ability to teach all subject areas needed to pass the High School Equivalency Exam in Spanish. Subject areas include language arts, math, social studies, and science.
Knowledge and use of virtual tools. Strong proficiency in online learning managements systems (Zoom, Google Meets, etc.)
Transcripts or evaluation of foreign credentials are required at the time of hire.


Preferred:


Master's Degree.
Experience teaching in HSE (TASC) Preparation Programs in Spanish.
Knowledge and experience writing thematic-based and/or contextualized curricula.


REQUISITOS:


Licenciatura y experiencia docente mínima de 1 año.
Fluente en español. Español como lengua materna es un plus.
Capacidad para enseñar todas las materias necesarias para aprobar el examen de equivalencia de escuela secundaria en español. Las áreas temáticas incluyen lectura, escritura, matemáticas, estudios sociales y ciencias.
Conocimiento y manejo de herramientas virtuales. Dominio en las plataformas de gestión de aprendizaje en línea (Zoom, Google Classroom, etc.)
Presentar expediente académico o evaluación de credenciales extranjeras en el momento de la contratación.


DESEABLE, pero no indispensable


Maestría.
Experiencia en la enseñanza en programas de equivalencia de escuela secundaria HSE (TASC) en español.
Conocimiento y experiencia en la redacción de planes de estudio contextualizados y / o temáticos.

Plus, we currently have the lowest tuition of any college or university in the state.

Our main campus is in Poughkeepsie, with a major extension site in Wappingers Falls. Students can also take DCC classes at high schools throughout the county.

We offer associate degrees and certificates in more than 60 program areas. Some of these programs are occupationally-oriented, designed to provide the skills students need to enter the job market immediately upon graduation. Other programs are designed to provide the first two years' of study toward a bachelor’s degree at a four-year college or university. The certificate programs provide a condensed program in a particular field of study and usually can be completed in one or two semesters of study.

There are three different types of degrees from which students can choose:

The Associate in Arts Degree (A.A.) is used primarily for transfer programs that lead to the bachelor of arts degree at a four-year college or university. It may be used for general liberal arts programs.

The Associate in Science Degree (A.S.) may be used for certain occupationally-oriented studies, but is primarily designed to serve science or professionally-related programs that lead to transfer to a bachelor of science degree at a four-year college or university.

The Associate in Applied Science Degree (A.A.S.) is structured as an occupationally-oriented degree. However, it may be appropriate as a transfer degree to certain types of specialized baccalaureate program such as the bachelor's of technology.
