  • Position Description:

    The Post-doctoral Research Associate will be working on a project funded by the US Department of Agriculture for conversion of lignocellulosic biomass sugars to furans and will help develop new research areas, such as thermochemical methods for processing and recycling plastic and other wastes. The candidate will be expected to supervise graduate/undergraduate students, present results at professional conferences, write manuscripts for publication in refereed journals, and write/assist with preparation of grant proposals.

     

     

    The successful candidate must have prior experience with lignocellulosic biomass conversion. In addition, the candidate must have prior experience with thermochemical conversion research and analytical techniques. This employee must be self-directed and able to work with minimum supervision. The employee must also be able to document results and write progress reports to the granting agency.

    A good history of hands-on experience in designing, constructing, and operating laboratory scale experimental equipment is highly desirable.

    Qualifications:

    Education/experience/licensing:

    • APh.D. in chemical engineering, petroleum engineering or related fields
    • Experiencein working on lignocellulose conversion.
    • Experiencein thermochemical conversion methods such as pyrolysis and/or gasification

     

    Communication and other skills:

    • Strongscientific writing skills demonstrated by experience authoring high qualityscientific papers.
    • Excellentverbal and interpersonal communications skills.
    • Abilityto work collaboratively as part of a research team or individually to completeprojects with limited supervision.
