Postdoctoral Research Fellow

Biomedical Engineering

Worcester Polytechnic Institute - WPI

The Brain, Behavior & Computation Lab at Worcester Polytechnic Institute - supported by the Department of Biomedical Engineering, and part of Neuroscience Program and PracticePoint Center for Cyber-Physical Systems - is looking for a postdoctoral fellow to work on quantitative behavioral and computational modeling research toward uncovering the sources of variability in human movement. Our lab has a particular, but not exclusive, emphasis on neural control of speech production.

Requirements: Ph.D. in biomedical engineering, computer science, neuroscience, psychology, linguistics, communication sciences, or related field will be considered. Strong written and verbal communication skills are highly desired. Previous research experience with collecting, analyzing and modeling human movement data is highly preferred. Additional experience with signal processing, machine learning, and/or dynamical systems modeling would be beneficial. Substantial knowledge of human speech and language is highly regarded.

Summary of job duties: The successful candidate will be expected to take a leading role in at least one active area of research for the lab. These areas include: (a) development and validation of behavioral biomarkers of neurological health, (b) mechanistic and computational modeling of human motor systems, (c) design and execution of novel behavioral experiments for uncovering perception, action and cognition mechanisms, and (d) analysis of novel human movement data from various acquisition modalities. It is expected that the applicant will be able to assist in the writing of manuscripts and grant applications, make positive scholarly contributions to our research lab, and also productively interact with our collaborators at University of Southern California, MIT Lincoln Lab, University of Wisconsin-Madison, Massachusetts General Hospital, and others. Additional opportunities exist to participate in new and ongoing research in the broader Biomedical Engineering and Computer Science Departments, as well as the Neuroscience Program, and throughout WPI.

The initial appointment for this position will be for two years, with potential extensions for additional years. Interested candidates should send a one-page cover letter describing their qualifications, interest, and career goals, a CV, and a list of 3 references.
