Position Summary
CTEC's Senior Project Manager/Research Associate oversees and manages CTEC's flagship online extremism project and conducts qualitative research and analysis. With the Digital Researcher/Senior Research Associate, the Senior Project Manager/Research Associate supervises hiring and coordination of student researchers, facilitates development and delivery of client deliverables, and leads monthly meetings with the client. He/she also conducts individual research and development on the project, from specific investigations of online extremism to working on a long-term strategic plan.

In conjunction with CTEC's Digital Researcher/Senior Research Associate, the Senior Project Manager/Research Associate also leads efforts to publish open-source, non-confidential research. This can involve writing, editing, and publication submission, as relevant.

Essential Functions
Manages CTEC's online extremism project, including budget, client deliverables, client meetings, etc.
Oversees methodological direction and design, with Digital Researcher/Senior Research Associate.
With the Digital Researcher/Senior Research Associate, completes hiring of student researchers.
Supervises student research, and reports on progress to CTEC leadership.
Collaborates with CTEC leadership to develop strategic vision for the online extremism project.
Conducts qualitative research and analysis for client deliverables.
Co-manages the development of client deliverables and monthly client meetings with Digital Researcher/Senior Research Associate.

General Responsibilities
Works with CTEC's Digital Researcher/Senior Research Associate to produce and publish open-source research.
Undertakes other support functions for CTEC as requested.

Education
Candidate should have an advanced degree in a related field (international relations, international security, sociology, nonproliferation and terrorism studies), or equivalent work experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Understanding of and interest in extremist movements and groups.
Strong written and verbal communications skills.
Demonstrated ability to manage teams of researchers.
Experience conducting research of Internet-based communities, social movements, or linguistics.
A record of publications, course papers, or other research material preferred.
Foreign language working proficiency is strongly preferred.
Some experience managing budgets.
Proficiency with Google Suite.

Experience
3+ years experience in a related field.

Physical Demands
The Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey maintains a smoke-free workplace and complies with the Federal Drug-Free Schools and Communities Act and Drug-Free Workplace Act.

Essential job functions require ability to sit for extended periods of time, walk, bend, climb, push/pull, lift and carry up to 25 pounds occasionally. Also requires fine dexterity and ability to grasp, i.e. for writing and word processing/data entry.
