Scope of Job:
Oversees the Web Strategy and Integrated Communications team within University Marketing and Communications. Leads the evaluation, planning, management, operations, maintenance, and development of external marketing and recruiting focused websites for UTRGV. Responsible for ensuring that web communications are integrated and effective in achieving institutional goals for enrollment and engagement while building the UTRGV brand.

Description of Duties:
• Leads the Web Strategy and Integrated Communications team within Digital Marketing and serves as project owner for websites and web communications that support achieving the University’s strategic goals while ensuring consistent brand articulation.
• Directs web development and communications planning, including managing internal clients, prioritization, timelines, project scope, technical requirements, and communication with key stakeholders. Ensures all plans are goal-oriented, have measurable outcomes, are properly budgeted and resourced, and integrated with overarching marketing plans to achieve priority goals.
• Directs web projects and the design, operation, maintenance, and development of all external-facing UTRGV websites, including overall design, template design, user experience and user interface design (UX/UI), content prioritization, accessibility, creation and maintenance of templates in the University’s content management system.
• Directs and ensures collaboration across digital marketing and creative functions to ensure that the website is properly optimized for search engines, follows marketing and conversion optimization best practices, adequately serves as a recruitment tool for the University, and that the visual design is properly articulating the UTRGV brand.
• Collaborates with Information Technology system engineers, database administrators, and CMS provider to integrate and manage automated web content and services as needed and implement software and system updates as required. Oversees the testing, revisions, and manages all updates to confirm that system is operational and meets all system performance standards.
• Ensures web-based communication systems are correctly implemented and ensures compliance with all internal and external policies, laws, regulations, and guidelines.
• Researches, evaluates, and recommends new technologies for use on websites.
• Provides leadership to staff assigned to web projects and evaluate and assess the results of work accomplished by the web development staff to ensure quality and completeness.
• Directs multiple tasks and projects simultaneously, driving follow-up and awareness of deadlines both within marketing team and for major clients, stepping in to problem-solve or interface with client leadership as necessary and acting as a second-in-command for the Director of Digital Marketing and Marketing Analytics as needed.
• Participates in the hiring, training, and evaluation of staff.
• Performs other special projects and duties as assigned.

Supervision Received:
General supervision from assigned supervisor.

Supervision Given:
Direct supervision of assigned staff.

Required Education:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.

Preferred Education:
Master’s degree in a related field from an accredited University.


Required Experience:
Four (4) years of professional web design and development experience, including supervisory experience.

Preferred Experience:

Use of standard office equipment.

Working Conditions:
Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Office environment; some travel and weekend work is required.

• Advanced skills in web development, interface design, usability, web accessibility, analytics, application integration, and development of web standards and guidelines.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, exceptional attention to detail, and an aptitude for making quick, quality decisions.
• Strong sense of customer service and consistently interact with clients with a high standard of professionalism.
• Strong project management and organizational skills and able to independently manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
