The Department of Health Sciences and Kinesiology in the Waters College of Health Professions invites applications and nominations for the position of Lecture or Assistant Professor of Nutrition and Food Science. The home campus for this position will be the Statesboro campus.

Georgia Southern University was founded in 1906 as a school for teaching modern agricultural production techniques and homemaking skills to rural school children. Its Savannah campus was established in 1935 as Armstrong Junior College for local youth who could not afford to attend college away from home. The Liberty Center in Hinesville was established in 1998 to serve the military and their families at nearby Fort Stewart, the largest military base east of the Mississippi. All three locations came together in 2018 when Armstrong State University and Georgia Southern University consolidated. Within this setting, the Department of Health Sciences and Kinesiology is a dynamic and growing unit of over 60 faculty and staff serving over 2,000 majors enrolled in a variety of undergraduate and graduate programs. The existing Nutrition and Food Science program prepares undergraduate students in one of three areas: Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD), Community Nutrition, and Food Science/Food Systems Administration. The DPD is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics as is an on-site Dietetic Supervised Practice Program at the graduate level. This position would contribute to the goals of the undergraduate program by filling a need in teaching basic nutrition courses and/or food systems administration.

Position Description. Reporting to the Chair of the Department, the Lecturer option for this position requires teaching, service, and professional development responsibilities as well as a master's degree (or higher). The Assistant Professor option for the position requires teaching, scholarship, and service responsibilities as well as a doctoral degree. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses within Nutrition and Food Science, including basic and applied nutrition as well as food courses, promote and sustain interdisciplinary dialogue and service, hold membership in professional associations, and serve on committees and participate in official activities at the departmental, college, and university levels. The position is a 10-month appointment, and the salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience. The Assistant Professor option is a tenure-track appointment that requires scholarly production, whereas the Lecturer option is a non-tenure track appointment that does not require scholarly production.

Required Qualifications:
• The Lecturer option requires an earned master's degree or higher in Nutrition, Food Science, Dietetics, or a closely related field, by August 1, 2021.
• The Assistant Professor option requires an earned doctoral degree in Nutrition, Food Science, Dietetics, or a closely related field, by August 1, 2021. Finally, the successful candidate must demonstrate the potential for productive scholarship;
• Willingness to engage with institutional student success initiatives;
• Commitment to engaging with best practice initiatives in instruction and pedagogy, mentoring, and curriculum design and development;
• Must be authorized to work in the United States for the duration of employment without assistance from the institution.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Potential for online teaching;
• Ability to teach quantity food systems administration and meal management;
• Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RD) or Dietetic Technician, Registered (DTR).
