Summary of Duties:

The Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine (ESFCOM) at Washington State University is embarking on the accreditation and development of a next generation medical school designed to train students to be physician leaders, who innovate, adapt and discover in an ever changing healthcare landscape. The School is now inviting applications for the position of Marketing and Communications Coordinator.

The Marketing and Communications Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and executing the tactical elements of the marketing and communications plan including earned, owned and paid media elements, as well as providing marketing administrative support.

With some direction from the supervisor, this role writes and edits communications materials, tracks and updates media contacts, assists with editorial calendar development and tracking, coordinates and posts social media content, performs routine website updates, compiles internal newsletters, assists with presentations and other promotional materials, provides event coordination support, and assists in executing marketing and communications campaigns. This role also coordinates marketing administrative tasks including contact list development and management, and campaign and social media tracking and reporting.

20% Website Content Management
-Maintains updates to the College of Medicine website including directory revisions, content revisions, photo and video updates, etc.
-Drafts new and revised web content and coordinates with Senior Marketing Communications Coordinator on developing new web pages.
-Tracks web analytics and stays abreast of trends and tools to continuously improve overall functionality, accessibility and quality of the website.

20% Communications and Public Relations
-Drafts press releases and media pitches, seeks out and identifies story ideas.
-Monitors and tracks news coverage.
-Assists with editorial calendar development. Tracks and updates media contacts and lists, stays abreast of news media outlets, reporter changes, etc.
-Compiles weekly internal newsletter. Drafts, edits and posts internal news stories and other news content.
-Assists in collecting content and developing presentations for college dean including quarterly all college meetings, community and business presentations, etc.
-Writes and edits content for the annual report, newsletters, and other communications materials.

20% Social Media
-Coordinates and posts social media content across all channels including but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, blogs, YouTube, LinkedIn, etc. Assures adherence to branding guidelines and best practices.
-Assists in creating visual assets and content for social media posts.
-Responds to comments and questions and tracks influencers.
-Assists with development and execution of campaigns and annual social media plan.
-Stays up-to-date on new applications and products that can be used to promote the college.

20% Marketing and Promotion
-Assists in executing marketing strategies, campaigns and initiatives.
-Collaborates with the Director in the development and execution of the comprehensive annual marketing and communications plan.
-Drafts and edits content for marketing collateral materials including brochures and one pagers, newsletters, annual report, website, multimedia/video productions, ad campaigns, etc.
-Assists with promotion of events including materials development, social media, and other promotional support, and provides event support as needed.

15% Marketing Administration
-Develops and maintains communications and marketing contact lists and media lists. Assists in updating and maintaining photography archive.
-Tracks web, marketing campaign and social media results and develops reports.

The College
The Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine is Washington’s premier community-based medical school. It is named after the university’s late president, Elson S. Floyd. Dr. Floyd believed that Washington State University, as the state’s land-grant institution, should train doctors to serve all of Washington.
The mission of the School is to: Develop practical solutions to challenging problems in disease prevention, health care access and delivery; Train primary care physicians who will work in Washington and help alleviate a shortage of doctors, especially in rural and under-served areas; and Develop a strong research component, with faculty members who work on innovative projects, sharing what they know with students in classroom and research settings.

Required Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s degree in English, communications, journalism, humanities, public relations, or related field; or four years of writing/editing/public relations experience; OR equivalent education/experience.

Additional Requirements:

Experience working with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc).

Demonstrated proficiency in writing, editing and proofreading.

Experience creating and distributing email campaigns.

Experience with professional social media management, interaction and content scheduling using Facebook, Twitter, lnstagram, Linkedln, Flickr and YouTube.

Experience with HTML text formatting and editing web pages In a content management system such as WordPress.

Ability to work a flexible schedule including occasional evenings and weekends.

Preferred Qualifications:

One (1) year of full-time work experience and/or an advanced degree in marketing, public relations, communications, or other related field.

Demonstrated ability to initiate and complete projects independently and with specific deadlines.

Experience working with web analytics, including search engine optimization, performance tracking, and keyword identification and promotion.

Experience with photography and creating quality digital content and visual assets for social media channels.

Associate Vice Provost for Inclusive Excellence Recently Announced

Dr. Lisa Guerrero was recently named associate vice provost for inclusive excellence. Guerrero has been an active advocate for diversity and inclusion since joining the WSU faculty in 2004. She is currently a professor of Comparative Ethnic Studies in WSU’s School of Languages, Cultures, and Race. She will maintain her faculty position, while serving as associate vice provost in a half-time appointment.

Dr. Guerrero will provide leadership to academic affairs in implementing WSU’s commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion. She will help to identify and implement best practices and evidence-based approaches in faculty hiring, tenure and promotion, research support, faculty retention, teaching and mentoring, and curriculum planning. One of her first areas of responsibility will be to oversee the Racism and Social Inequality in the Americas faculty cluster hire program for Fall 2021.
