Position Summary:

The Center for Hybrid Approaches in Solar Energy to Liquid Fuels (CHASE), is seeking applicants for a senior research scientist in photo-electrocatalysis and product analysis. This Fuels from Sunlight Energy Innovation Hub, headquartered at UNC-CH with partner institutions at Yale University, Brookhaven National Laboratory, the University of Pennsylvania, North Carolina State University, and Emory University, will accelerate scientific breakthroughs for advanced energy technology development. This position will serve as the lead research staff member in photo-electrocatalyst assessment, with an emphasis on solar fuels product analysis. Extensive collaboration with researchers across the Center is expected, and this Senior Research Scientist will be responsible for leading and coordinating the CHASE technical staff. This position will provide technical oversight and management of the CHASE Solar Fuels Product Analysis and Spectroscopy User Facilities. This Senior Research Scientist will establish new protocols for evaluating the solar-to-fuels efficiency of hybrid photoelectrodes, as quantify efficiencies of photoelectrodes developed in CHASE or through collaborations under simulated sunlight and monochromatic light excitation.

Educational Requirements:

Ph.D. in Chemistry, Physics, Materials Science or related field.

Qualifications and Experience:

A minimum of five years of laboratory experience in solar fuels research employing electrochemical or photoelectrochemical methods, spectroscopy, and analytical tools for product analysis (including mass spectrometry). Work history should also demonstrate experience laboratory and instrumentation maintenance, safety and chemical hygiene. Experience mentoring of junior researchers and laboratory management experience is highly desirable, along with commitment to establishing and maintaining laboratory best practices, including safety, chemical hygiene and waste handling. Candidate must be enthusiastic, conscientious, safety-oriented, and have superior oral and written communication skills, and be committed with keeping detailed laboratory records. Candidate should demonstrate eagerness to work as part of a team and provide mentorship, training, and support for researchers.
