Job Summary:

The Civic Engagement Coordinator will be a vital part of the Mays Center for Experiential Learning & Community Engagement team by planning, developing, and implementing civic engagement and community service programming including large days of service, civic engagement programs, and supervising the AmeriCorps Public Ally and the student-led campus food pantry. The Coordinator will be instrumental in tracking the impact students have on the local community and reporting that data when necessary. In addition, the Coordinator will develop, train, supervise, and evaluate the performance of the student workers under this purview.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and oversee community service programs. Including the overseeing the student-operated campus food pantry.

  • Promote and advise civic engagement. This includes voter registration and voter information, as well as coordinating the university's participation in the MLK March and Chavez March.

  • Direct large campus-wide Days of Service.

  • Provide consultation, training, and assistance to individual students, student organizations, and staff/faculty on implementing community engagement events.

  • Build lasting and reciprocal relationships with other university departments and offices through event and program collaboration.

  • Leverage the use of technology, namely the on line GivePulse tool, and social media to raise awareness and enhance two-way communication between the
    Mays Center and the community.

  • Oversee the President's Volunteer Service Awards Recognition program in addition to other recognition programs for students involved in community service and civic engagement.

  • Coordinate with community partners to come to campus and recruit students for community service positions.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Three years of related experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation applications.

  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

  • Interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Planning and organization skills.
