Duties/Responsibilities:

-Washing glassware/plasticware by hand or by dishwasher.
-Filling and/or sterilizing pipette tips, tubes, glassware, media, buffers, etc.
-Processing biohazard waste following established lab procedures.
-Making media, common buffers, aliquoting reagents, etc.

-Helping to maintain lab organization (including database entries) and cleanliness as requested.
-Occasionally unpacking incoming supplies.
-Lab procedures if ability and time allows may include: plasmid DNA preps, PCR, gel electrophoresis (DNA and/or protein), DNA cloning, etc.

Position Summary:

Student lab assistant position to help maintain parasitology lab (malaria).

Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification in Position:

MS Excel and Word. Willing to communicate work related issues and information with relevant co-workers.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies :

General familiarity with a lab where chemical safety is important. Helpful to have some familiarity with cell culture and molecular biology to understand needs and work flow in the lab. Useful coursework includes: biology, chemistry, cellular biology, molecular biology, microbiology and/or parasitology.
