Assistant Director of Accessibility and Disability Services
Coastal Carolina University is seeking candidates for Assistant Director of Accessibility and Disability Services (Student Services Program Coordinator II) at Coastal Carolina University. The Assistant Director will report directly to the Director of Accessibility and Disability Services. The Assistant Director will work in an office setting as well as various environments across campus. Must be available to work evenings and weekends during peak times of the year.
Duties include, but are not limited to: utilize active listening, interactive communication, and critical thinking skills to make accommodation determinations; review documentation from medical providers and educational systems; provide consultation to faculty regarding accommodation implementation; cooperate with Accessibility and Disability Services colleagues in formal and informal problem solving, policy and procedure development, and maintaining and upholding the Accessibility and Disability Services mission and vision; supports faculty and staff with accommodation implementation and general access and inclusion questions; engage with Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion division colleagues in meetings, events, and programs; interact with families of students seeking information, guidance, or understanding of CCU, DEI, or ADS and educate students, faculty, staff, and student families about Accessibility and Disability Services, disability, access, and inclusion. Reporting to the ADS Director, the Assistant Director will be expected to: hold a bachelor’s degree with experience in disability services or a related field with an understanding and value of intersecting identities; support the mission and vision of the department and the division of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion; work closely with ADS colleagues and campus partners; and support access and inclusion for students, colleagues, and campus visitors.
Requirements: A bachelor’s degree and related experience is required. A master’s degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Disability Studies, Special Education, Counseling, Social Work, or a related field are preferred. At least two (2) years of relevant experience in disability services in an educational setting and direct experience with disability services in a university setting, along with demonstrated knowledge of universal design and a social justice framework are also preferred.
