Required Qualifications: Applicants must specifically address how they meet these required qualifications to meet the requirements of the position.:

•Knowledge of: Basic mechanical concepts of rotating equipment, emergency generators, chillers and boilers for proper functioning and repair; chemical safety and MSDS; standard safety practices; and proper procedures related to confined spaces.

•Skill in: Working as a team member; clear instructions to contractors and vendors; large hand tools; pipe fitting, seals, filters, and lubricants; operating forklifts, man lifts and scissor lifts.

•Ability to: Complete computer based time sheets; record data on personal computers; read and write work orders instructions and work completed; read SOPs, policy and equipment manuals; to interpret technical documents; to use specialized measuring devices; select appropriate parts for order requests; perform basic math; and use a personal computer software.

•To qualify for this classification, an individual must possess any combination of experience and education that would likely produce the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Preferred Qualifications:

•Must possess Texas Class “C” Driver’s License and maintain eligibility to drive a university vehicle pursuant to the University’s Driver Selection Policy.

•Ability to be on call; work outside of normal working hours (including holidays); work special events.

Job Description:

Responsible for maintaining mechanical equipment in the six thermal plants along with various satellite areas of responsibilities.

Job Duties:

•Conduct mechanical equipment, piping and valve preventive maintenance tasks and document.
•Inspect service, troubleshoot and repair multiple 100 ton to 2,500-ton chillers.
•Inspect and maintain chiller refrigerant purge systems and service, as necessary.
•Maintain air plant compressor and dryers for instrument air in plant.
•Service electro-pneumatic valve actuators.
•Overhaul equipment if leaking oil, making noise, and not carrying pressure.
•Inspect and lubricate and repair large vertical and horizontal pumps and motors in the plant.
•Rebuild centrifugal split case pumps.
•Inspect, clean and repair cooling tower fans, gearboxes, piping, valves, and basins in cooling towers.
•Inspect steam and chill water lines and valves in tunnels, vaults, and plants.
•Conduct inspection, service and repair of all ventilation and exhaust fans in plants.
•Generate work orders and close out work orders.
•Inspect service and repair multiple boilers up to 50,000 pound per hour steam.
•Operate and service 38 emergency generators on campus.
•Inspect and maintain sand filters, reverse osmosis units, and water softeners.
•Check and maintain all safety supplies and equipment.
•Perform other duties as assigned.
