Job Description

The College of Science and Engineering (COSE) at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi (TAMU-CC) invites applications for a faculty position at the rank of full Professor in Coastal and Marine System Science (CMSS). Applicants are expected to have an outstanding record in undergraduate and graduate teaching, curriculum development, and research in geophysics and geology with a focus on coastal and marine shallow and deep sediment 2D and 3D seismic profiling. A person in this position will provide leadership and development for new opportunities in coastal sciences in the Gulf of Mexico and other national and international locations. Under this new position, there will be an expansion of related research topics through COSE. A successful applicant's background includes an ability to develop and facilitate collaborations with other academic and research units on campus and with external constituents in the academic, private and government sectors. The ideal candidate has developed an internationally recognized research track record including development and coordination of large externally funded multi-disciplinary research programs. The teaching expectation for this position is 3 courses/year in the Geology Program, CMSS, and the Environmental Sciences undergraduate and M.S. programs.

The Department of Physical and Environmental Sciences (PENS) has 35 faculty and 5 staff. Five academic degree programs are offered and include: BS degrees in Physics, Geology, Atmospheric Sciences, Chemistry and Environmental Sciences; M.S. degrees in Chemistry, Environmental Sciences, and Coastal and Marine System Science; and a Ph.D. degree in CMSS. Note CMSS provides diverse opportunities and focuses on integrative concepts linking biogeochemistry, geographic information science, ecosystem dynamics, and quantitative modeling. The CMSS program also promotes interdisciplinary studies of the coastal zone that integrate natural science with socio-economic sciences. Graduates of the CMSS program demonstrate proficiency in understanding and applying the concepts and principles of all of the natural sciences as well as a working competence in mathematical modeling and geospatial analysis. Development goals in COSE are required to integrate basic science, industrial focuses, and new technology development.

Required Qualifications:

  • A PhD in Geology, Geophysics or a related field and a record of achievement in scholarship appropriate for appointment with tenure at the rank of Professor.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly, lead collaboratively, and have a clear vision to guide the future scholarly success of Geology and Geophysics with a focus on seismic data collection, processing and interpretation.
  • An established record of external funding that supports computational and geospatial sciences research and education, successful supervision of PhD and MS students to completion, and mentoring of undergraduate students.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in project planning in remote locations; e.g., Arctic and Antarctic Oceans.
  • Capability for onboard seismic data interpretation to provide decisions for integration of geochemical and seismic data collection.
  • Integration of seismic, geological, geochemical; including heatflow and controlled source electromagnetic data for assessment sediment conditions across applied and basic research topics.
